UNS – Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) visited Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS). The working visit took place in the UNS Tower on Thursday (20/2/2025). Vice Chair of Commission X DPR RI H. Lalu Hadrian Irfani, S.T., led the delegation. They aimed to gather insights on the student admission system and higher education policies.

UNS Overview and Student Admission System

UNS Rector, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si., welcomed the delegation alongside Vice Rectors and Deans at the UNS Tower Ballroom. During his speech, he provided an overview of UNS and its role in higher education.

“UNS envisions itself as a center for the development of science, technology, and arts at an international level. At the same time, it remains rooted in national cultural values,” Prof. Hartono explained.

Currently, UNS has 14 faculties, one vocational school, and one postgraduate school, accommodating 76.153 students. A total of 1.980 lecturers and 1.831 administrative staff support the institution. Among the lecturers, 981 hold doctoral degrees, and as of December 2024, the university has 269 active professors.

Regarding student admissions, UNS implements three selection pathways:

National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP)

National Selection Based on Test (SNBT)

Independent Selection (SM)

“As a State University with Legal Entity (PTNBH), UNS allocates at least 20% of seats for SNBP, 30% for SNBT. Meanwhile up to 50% for the Independent Selection,” Prof. Hartono explained.

He also urged prospective students and schools to carefully follow admission guidelines. “Negligence may lead to missing the opportunity to enroll,” he emphasized.

Commission X’s Visit and Key Discussions

Vice Chair of Commission X DPR RI, H. Lalu Hadrian Irfani, S.T., outlined the objectives of the visit. The delegation gathered factual data and identified challenges. They also ensured that the student admission system upholds fairness, accountability, transparency, and efficiency.

“This approach ensures equal access to higher education for all prospective students across Indonesia,” he stated.

The visit also included discussions with private universities in Solo Raya. Those were representatives from Universitas Slamet Riyadi (Unisri) and Universitas Tunas Pembangunan (UTP). Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) and Universitas Surakarta (Unsa) also participated in the event. They took part in discussions and shared their perspectives.

Additionally, Dr. Beny Bandanadjaja, S.T., M.T., the Director of Institutional Affairs at the Ministry of Education, attended the meeting. Dr. Uswatun Hasanah, S.Pd., M.Pd., the Head of the Central Java Provincial Education Office, was also present.

Lalu Hadrian Irfani invited private university representatives to voice their concerns, particularly regarding student admission policies. Their input will help shape future discussions between Commission X and the government.

UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta hosted a socialization event on the 2025 New Student Admission Selection for Diploma and Undergraduate Programs on Tuesday (4/2/2025). Additionally, it was streamed live via YouTube and Zoom Cloud Meeting to reach a wider audience.

Key Speakers and Discussion Points

Several key figures shared insights during the event, including:

Bekti Cahyo Hidayanto, S.Si., M.Kom., Executive Secretary of the National Selection for New Student Admission (SNPMB).

Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si., Rector of UNS.

Prof. Drs. Sutarno, M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of the UNS New Student Admission Selection Office (SPMB).

Ir. Widiyanto, S.P., M.Si., Ph.D., Head of the Vocational and Undergraduate Program Division at UNS SPMB, moderated the discussion.

UNS Rector: Choosing the Right Study Program Matters

In his remarks, Prof. Hartono emphasized UNS’s commitment to becoming a World-Class University and encouraged the nation’s top students to apply. He also highlighted recent admission policy changes under Ministerial Regulation (Permendikbudristek) Number 62 of 2023.

“These changes are crucial for school principals and BK teachers to understand so they can guide students in selecting their study programs wisely,” Prof. Hartono stated.

He also clarified important admission restrictions. Students accepted through SNBP cannot register for SNBT or Independent Selection at Public Universities (PTN). In addition, those admitted via SNBT and who have completed registration are also ineligible for the Independent Selection.

Meanwhile, Bekti Cahyo Hidayanto stressed the important role of schools in the 2025 SNPMB process. Once schools complete the School and Student Database (PDSS) registration, students will enter the selection phase under their school’s supervision. He also outlined UNS’s admission quotas:

“Selecting a university requires a strategic approach. Most people consider a PTN’s reputation and achievements first. A university with outstanding accomplishments can instill pride in its students. However, the key is to choose wisely—based on interests, personal capabilities, and individual preferences,” Prof. Sutarno explained.

He advised students to research thoroughly by reviewing admission competitiveness and the number of applicants for specific programs. “Align your choice with your capabilities. If you are confident in your selection, proceed with the application. Otherwise, consider alternative options,” he added.

Prof. Sutarno emphasized that students accepted through SNBP cannot withdraw or apply through other admission pathways. “Students must carefully review the selection mechanism, available programs, and targeted universities. Another crucial factor is location. The cost of living varies by city, so discussing this with parents is essential,” he concluded.

During the 2025 Diploma and Undergraduate Admissions Socialization event at the G.P.H. Haryo Mataram UNS Auditorium on Tuesday (4/2/2025), Bekti Cahyo Hidayanto, S.Si., M.Kom., Executive Secretary of the National Selection for New Student Admissions (SNPMB), shared several key tips for successfully gaining admission to a PTN, especially through the SNBP pathway.

The 2025 Diploma and Undergraduate Admissions Socialization event took place at the G.P.H. Haryo Mataram UNS Auditorium on Tuesday (4/2/2025). Bekti Cahyo Hidayanto, S.Si., M.Kom., Executive Secretary of the National Selection for New Student Admissions (SNPMB), shared key tips for successfully gaining admission to a PTN through SNBP.

Key Strategies for SNBP Success

1. Understand SNBP Regulations

The first step to success in SNBP is understanding the applicable rules and policies. Official information is available on https://snpmb.bppp.kemdikbud.go.id/ and SNPMB’s official social media accounts. Relying on these sources helps avoid misinformation.

2. Analyze Report Card Scores

Review your report card scores to ensure consistency and assess which programs align with your academic strengths. This will help you gauge your chances of admission. Consult with your school counselor for guidance in selecting a major that matches your skills and interests.

3. Prepare an Outstanding Portfolio

Applicants for arts or sports programs must prepare a strong portfolio, a key assessment component in SNBP. Ensure your portfolio highlights your best work and meets the SNBP submission guidelines.

4. Keep Track of SNBP Deadlines

Meeting deadlines is crucial. Mark key dates such as registration, document submission, and announcement periods. Set reminders or place notes in visible locations to stay on schedule.

5. Complete All Registration Requirements

Ensure you fulfill all registration requirements. Review the list of necessary documents for your chosen program, prepare them carefully, and double-check everything before submission to avoid errors.

By following these strategies, students can enhance their chances of securing admission to their dream PTN through SNBP.

This session was broadcast live via Instagram @spmbuns on Friday (24/5/2024).

During the event, UPT SPMB provided a general overview and information about the D4 Manufacturing Engineering Technology Study Program and the D4 Mandarin Language for Business and Professional Communication Study Program. This event also served as a step in introducing the two new programs in line with the timeline for new student admissions in 2024.

The session was moderated by Azriela Kesia Agusta Putri, a Business Management student from the SV 2022 program, and featured presentations by the Head of the D4 Manufacturing Engineering Technology Study Program, Dr. Hammar Ilham Akbar, S.Pd., M.T., and the Head of the D4 Mandarin Language for Business and Professional Communication Study Program, Kristina Indah S.R, B.Ed., M.TCSOL.

D4 Manufacturing Engineering Technology Study Program

The Head of the D4 Manufacturing Engineering Technology Program, Dr. Hammar Ilham Akbar, S.Pd., M.T., explained that the introduction of this new program aims to upgrade the curriculum to keep pace with the times and market needs. Through this program, students will be equipped with comprehensive competencies in manufacturing technology. Dr. Hammar also explained that the D4 Manufacturing Engineering Technology Study Program has been accredited by the Technical Education Accreditation Board (LAM Teknik).

“The D4 Manufacturing Engineering Technology Study Program covers fundamentals similar to those in mechanical engineering programs in the first and second semesters, but we emphasize that students understand the manufacturing process. For example, creating innovations that can add value to a product,” Dr. Hammar said.

He added that UNS is one of the universities equipped with industry-standard 3D scanning equipment. “We also have industry-standard CNC milling machines, so graduating students need not worry because the equipment in our laboratories is comparable to those in the industry,” he added.

Dr. Hammar further explained that the D4 Manufacturing Engineering Technology Study Program teaches the basics of machinery, including how to design, calculate, operate, and control the quality of manufacturing processes. Thus, students become proficient in the entire manufacturing process, from start to finish. Students also receive national and international certifications that can be beneficial in the future.

“We have collaborated with national and international industrial companies. Hence, there are ample opportunities for careers both domestically and internationally because many of our alumni have been accepted there. The program also plans for three semesters of internships so that students have portfolios and experience upon graduation,” Dr. Hammar added.

D4 Mandarin Language for Business and Professional Communication

The D4 Mandarin Language for Business and Professional Communication Study Program is an upgrade from the D3 Mandarin Language Program. This enhancement aims to increase the value and competency of its graduates, focusing on business and industry.

Kristina Indah S.R, B.Ed., M.TCSOL, the Head of the D4 Mandarin Language for Business and Professional Communication Program, explained that the program focuses 70% on direct practice through industrial lectures or internships, making it significantly different from the Literature Study Program.

“Students will be equipped with Mandarin for daily communication, which will then be developed for business and industrial communication. Industrial internships are also provided to develop language skills and terminology directly in the industrial world. Students also acquire translation skills according to standards, as well as administrative skills in both Indonesian and Mandarin. Therefore, graduates of this program can fill various positions in companies,” Kristina explained.

She added that the D4 Mandarin Language for Business and Professional Communication Study Program has collaborated with many Chinese and Taiwanese foreign investment companies, providing significant opportunities for graduates to pursue careers in those companies.

She also mentioned that the program has been accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). Humas UNS

UNS — Head of Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) New Student Admission Selection (SPMB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hadiwiyono, M.Sc., delivered material entitled ‘UNS My Dream Campus’ through the ‘UNS BISA (Discuss & Greet)’ Program. The event was held through Zoom Cloud Meeting and broadcasted directly through SPMB UNS Youtube Channel.

Prof. Hadi revealed several corroborating reasons to choose UNS as a place to pursue further study. He also hopes that this material can be useful for those looking to enter Higher Education (PT) institutions or universities. “UNS has an excellent reputation at the national to international level. Recently UNS has been included in the top 11 best Universities (PT) in the First cluster for National Level. Our campus is also accredited A (superior) by the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN-PT) and has been designated as a Legal Entity State University (PTNBH) on October 6, 2020. UNS also managed to achieve the highest points in the National Key Performance Indicators (IKU) assessment in 2020/2021, and many others,” explained Prof. Hadi on Friday (1/4/2022).

Furthermore, Prof. Hadi mentioned that UNS has also established global cooperation with many of the world’s top universities and succeeded in establishing an outstanding National Center of Excellence in Science and Technology (PUI), namely the PUI Lithium Battery, PUI Javanology, and PUI Center for Fintech and Banking.

“The learning facilities at UNS adopted the Industry 4.0-oriented Outcome-Based Education (OBE) for its curricula. Also, the teaching and learning activities are carried out through blended learning, a combination of online-based learning and class meetings. UNS also facilitates international standard learning, proved from classroom facilities with international standards, online learning application systems such as Open CourseWare (OCW) and Online Learning System (Spada) with an integrated system,” explained Prof. Hadi

In terms of facilities and infrastructure, UNS provides an ISO 9001:2015 certified Academic services completed with a fully equipped laboratory to support research activities and practical simulation. The Main UNS Library is supported by UNS Library Automation (LA) and Digital Library. The campus also provides supporting infrastructures such as internet connection hotspots available throughout the campus area; a UNS Bookstore that provides a complete book collection written by students and academic members; and extensive health services delivered through the UNS Medical Center and the UNS Hospital. UNS also established Student Dormitories with 700 units, UNS Inn Hotels, and praying facilities for all religions recognized in Indonesia (Temple, Vihara, Kelenteng, Church, and Mosque). There are reliable transportation facilities and an independent Drinking Water Treatment System (SPAM) within the campus. This Drinking Water service is available through 50 ready-to-drink water dispenser points and 100 tap water rooms spread across majors and work units in the UNS. Not only that, but UNS also offers excellent opportunities to get scholarships, including KIP College scholarships with a minimum quota of 20% of the number of students who enter, UNS scholarships, Alumni scholarships, and SOE/Private Company scholarships.

“UNS also facilitates the preparation for UNS students’ career development. This activity is implemented through the UNS Career Development Center (CDC), which regularly conducts pre-job training, job fair, etc. In addition to CDC, UNS also established a Professional Certification Institute (LSP), which has been licensed from the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) as an implementing certification institution for UNS students,” added Prof. Hadi

To date, UNS has 13 Faculties, 1 Vocational School to deliver undergraduate and diploma programs with 67 Undergraduate/Bachelor Study Programs and 27 Diploma Study Programs. Furthermore, 90% of UNS Bachelor’s degree programs have been accredited by BAN-PT. UNS is also very open to accepting students with disabilities and providing a particular entrance scheme for special prospective students.

“For students who are searching for their dream campus, you must choose according to your interests. Your special interest can give extraordinary energy to you, thus, becoming your key to success. Next up is confidence. Pay attention to the Admission Competitiveness Ratio of each Study Program to increase the chances of being accepted. Also, pay attention to the official admission schedules, mechanisms, and requirements. Work as hard as you can because results never betray effort, and not forgetting spiritual preparation by praying to God. Lastly, don’t forget to ask for the blessing of both parents. Hopefully, all of you interested in entering UNS can succeed and develop themselves with UNS,” said Prof. Hadi. Humas UNS

UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta will use three admission selection schemes for New Student Admissions (PMB) in 2022. The three schemes are the National Selection for State University Admission (SNMPTN), Joint Selection for State University Admission (SBMPTN), and Independent Admission (SM). Provisions regarding SNMPTN and SBMPTN are stipulated by the Institution of University Entrance Exams (LTMPT), while SM is regulated independently by UNS.

This announcement was conveyed during Dissemination on SNMPTN, SBMPTN, SM UNS 2022 hosted by the Technical Implementational Unit (UPT) for New Student Admissions Selection (SPMB) UNS, Thursday (13/1/2022).
High School (SMA), Vocational High School (SMK), and Madrasah Aliyah (MA), teachers, and students were attending this dissemination. The event started at 09.00 WIB, presenting three speakers: the Executive Director of LTMPT, Prof. Dr. Ir. Budi Prasetyo Widyobroto, DESS, DEA, IPU, ASEAN Eng., the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs UNS, Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, MS., and the Head of UPT SPMB UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hadiwiyono, M.Sc., with a welcome remark from the UNS Rector, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, SH, M. Hum.

In his remarks, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, SH, M. Hum., expressed his gratitude to the attending teachers and students from numerous SMA, SMK, and MA, for participating in the SNMPTN, SBMPTN, SM UNS 2022 Information Dissemination.
“In 2022, we have three selection schemes, namely, the SNMPTN, SBMPTN, and SM,” explained Prof. Jamal.

Through this dissemination, Prof. Jamal wishes to provide information to teachers and students regarding the new students’ admission schemes available at UNS. “Hopefully, the 12th graders and those who graduated two years ago can participate in the entrance selections we have provided,” added Prof. Jamal.

The LTMPT Executive Director, Prof. Dr. Ir. Budi Prasetyo Widyobroto, DESS, DEA, IPU, ASEAN, Eng., said that only schools that follow the national curriculum are eligible to participate in the SNMPTN. The eligible school must submit students’ score data into the PDSS. LTMPT will retrieve this data without making any amendments or transformations to the data.

Regarding the Computer-Based Written Examination (UTBK), the 2022 written test section will follow a similar procedure to the previous year. However, there are differences in the material section. The exam material in 2022 will include an additional English exam that has separated scoring. “Thus, compared to last year, there will be additional English tests, yet there is no English test last year,” said Prof. Budi.

Aside from SNMPTN and SBMPTN, the Head of UPT SPMB UNS Prof. Dr. Ir. Hadiwiyono, M.Sc., also explains various Independent Admission (SM) schemes available for undergraduate and diploma programs. Interested students can access information related to SM through the spmb.uns.ac.id page. There are 7 (seven) SM schemes for undergraduate level admission: the UTBK, the Written Exam Admission Test (SMJU), Admission Selection for Disability (SMJD), the Special Achievement Admission Selection (SMJP), the Admission Selection for Partnership Program (SMJK), the Admission Selection for Young Leadership (SMJKM), and International Class Admission Selection (SMJI).

Meanwhile, there are 6 (six) SM schemes for the diploma program. The six selection schemes are the UTBK, the Written Exam Admission Test for Diploma Program (SMDJU), Diploma Program Admission Selection for Disability (SMDJD Special Achievement Admission Selection for Diploma Program (SMDJP), Diploma Program Admission Selection for Partnership Program (SMDJK), and the Admission Selection for Young Leadership (SMDJKM).

Prof. Hadiwiyono further explained the description of the acceptance rate of each UNS admission scheme in 2021. In 2021, 28,858 students participated in the SNMPTN UNS, with only 1,443 students being accepted. This fact shows that the acceptance rate in UNS SNMPTN last year reached 5%. For the SBMPTN selection, there were 47,420 participants for UNS, with a total of 2,628 students accepted. This data shows that the acceptance rate of the UNS SBMPTN 2021 reached 5.52%. Meanwhile, in SM, there were 98,603 applicants, with only 5,236 students admitted, resulting in a 5.31% acceptance rate for the UNS SM in 2021.

“Therefore, in total, there are 175,081 people who are interested in getting enrolled in UNS. Meanwhile, only 9,307 people were selected, or only 5.32 percent were enrolled,” said Prof. Hadiwiyono.

Meanwhile, UNS Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, MS, on this occasion, also conveyed that UNS’s reputation is growing brighter from year to year. Some of UNS achievements are listed as the best university in National cluster 1, accredited with ‘A’ predicate, established as Legal Entity State University (PTNBH), QS Asian University Rankings (QS AUR) #401-450, ranked 79th in the world, and 7th nationally according to the UI Green Metric World University Rankings. UNS was also ranked 2,535th globally and 13th nationally in Webometrics, including other international accreditations. Humas UNS
