UNS – Arabic Literature Study, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sebelas Maret (FIB UNS) Surakarta held an International Public Lecture as part the of cooperation between UNS with Canal Suez University of Egypt. The public lecture entitled “Arabic For Non-Arab Speakers” was held in Hall II of the dr. Prakosa Building in UNS, Thursday (8/2/2018).
The public lecture was attended by Professor of Agricultural Product Technology as well as Vice Rector for community service and environmental development of Canal Suez University, Athif Abu Nur; professor of Arabic Literature and Special Director of Indonesian Studies of Canal Suez University Egypt, Hasan Abdul Alim Yusuf; professor of Arabic Literature Gadjah Mada University Mada (UGM) and double degree scholarship coordinator of Canal Suez University of Egypt, Sangidu; Rector of UNS, Ravik Karsidi; Dean of FIB UNS, Riyadi Santosa; and Head of Arabic Literature Program UNS, Muhammad Farhan Mujahidin. Hasan Abdul Alim Yusuf delivered a public lecture to the students of Arabic Literature.
On the occasion, Ravik Karsidi expected cooperation between UNS and Canal Suez University to be more developed especially in student exchange and double degree system.
“Today’s occasion will be forwarded to the future of cooperation between Suez Canal University and UNS, especially Arabic Literature, and we will create what is called as double degree learning system and even the initial stage of credit recognition. You may take class there then the credit can be admitted here,” explained Ravik Karsidi.
This expectation was welcomed by Athif Abu Nur as Vice Rector for community service and environmental development of Canal Suez University Egypt by conveying that Canal Suez University will send the students to universities in Indonesia, especially UNS.
“I acknowledged that the level of universities in Indonesia matches the level of college in other countries. This will encourage us to send Egyptian students to universities in Indonesia to continue their Master and Ph. D, as the rector knows there are also agreements signed by the Canal Suez and UNS Universities and it is time for this cooperation to be intensified and applied more seriously,” said Athif Abu Nur.
In this public lecture which the theme is “Arabic for Non-Arab Speakers”, Hasan Abdul Alim Yusuf also promoted four majors to students who wish to pursue their studies at Cana Suez University.
“The first study program is Islamic studies for non-Arab speakers, the second study program is library and information studies, and the three studies of social science and psychology, the latter namely the science of geography and natural resources. Who knows after being here you can continue to study there, especially in the field of Islamic studies for non-Arab speakers,” explained Hasan Abdul Alim Yusuf.
Moreover, Sangidu as the professor of Arabic Literature UGM and the coordinator of double degree scholarship of Canal University of Suez Egypt also provide tips in researching literature through criticism method of literary works to students of Arabic Literature who will prepare to do thesis. humas-red.uns/Sav/Dty
