Voca Erudita Wins Three Awards at an International Choral Contest in Spain

UNS – Voca Erudita had once again done Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta and Indonesia proud by earning more achievements as an addition to their awards collection. Voca Erudita carved their name as a winner at The 63rd International Contest of Habaneras and Polyphony of Torrevieja, Spain on July 17th-23rd 2017.

The UNS choral group won the third prize in both Habanera Modality and Poliphony Modality category and also Francisco Valejoz Prize for the best interpretation of a popular habanera “You”. In addition to trophies, Voca Erudita received endowments of €2,500 as the third prize in Habanera Modality category, €2,000 as the third prize in Poliphony Modality category, and €1,000 as the Francisco Vallejos Prize.

Voca Erudita competed with the other eleven choir groups from eight countries – Spain, Argentina, the Philippines, Latvia, Poland, Russia, Serbia, and Ukraine. The first and second prizes of Habanera Modality Awards were won by Kammerchor Manila (the Philippines) and  Youth Choir Kamer (Latvia). As for the Polyphony Modality Awards, the first prize was won by Youth Choir Kamer (Latvia), and the second by Kammerchor Manila (the Philippines).

The jury president Juan Pablo de Juan Martin pointed out the exceptional quality of the choir groups and considered them better than the previous editions. Martin also mentioned the challenge the jury had during the scoring process, especially in the Polyphony category.

“The choir groups showed more than expected in terms of choreography and costumes from their places of origin in Polyphony,” he said. humas-red.uns/Hfz/Eln
