The inauguration of 8.498 UNS freshmen in the academic year 2016/2017 were held at Kantor Pusat dr. Prakosa building, Thursday (8/18/2016). The inauguration involved the vocation, bachelor and post graduate students. Besides the number of 8.481 students, there are 8 foreign students and 9 students from the selection of Higher Education Affirmation (ADik). Therefore, the total number of UNS freshmen in the current year are 8.498 students.

The applicants who had registered at UNS in the academic year 2016/2017 were 284.801 in which the admission slots were 8.481 students. As many as 73.379 applicants registered for vocational program and 1.867 were admitted in which the passing grade was 1:39. The total number of bachelor program applicants were 208.451 divided into three ways of selection, namely National Selection Admission of State University (SNMPTN), Joint Selection Admission of State University (SBMPTN) and Independent Selection (SM). As many as 2.271 students were accepted through SNMPTN out of 59.755 applicants in which the passing grade was 1:26 and 2.463 students were accepted through SBMPTN out of 71.109 applicants in which the passing grade was 1:29. In addition, Independent Selection (SM) accepted 769 students out of 76.587 applicants in which the passing grade was 1:99. Thus, the total number of bachelor program were 5.503 students through 3 different ways of admission selection.

Post graduate program consisting of magister and doctoral program had 979 and 132 students. The number of those 979 students were accepted after being selected from 2.701 students with the passing grade was 1:3. Then those 132 post graduate students were accepted after being selected from 270 students with the passing grade was 1:2.

The number of vocational program are 1.867 students divided into 8 faculties, namely Faculty of Art Science (FIB) are 140 students, Faculty of Fine Art and Design (FSRD) are 77 students, Faculty of Economy and Business (FEB) are 359 students, Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIP) are 350 students, Faculty of Medicine (FK) are 375 students, Faculty of Agriculture (FP) are 224 students, Faculty of Engineering (FT) are 192 students, and Faculty of Mathematics and Science (MIPA) are 150 students. As many as 5.503 bachelor students are divided into 10 faculties: FIB (280), FSRD (231), FKIP (1951), FH (475), FEB (330), FISIP (352), FK (352), FAPERTA (591), FT (513) and FMIPA (428).
