UNS — Issues on patients who are intentionally diagnosed with Covid-19 by Hospital are among various dangerous and misleading information circulated in public. Those who believe this narrative accuse that Hospitals tried to gain any incentives from the government.
In 2020, the public and netizens were shocked by the claims of certain parties. The said parties are mentioning cases when patients without Covid-19 are diagnosed or treated using Covid-19 protocol, with an intention to gain certain incentives from the government, which varies from 300 million rupiah per person.
However, when traced back to the claimant, as verified by the Indonesian Hospital Association (Persi) in July 2020, the narratives about intentional error are based on merely rumors or “people say.” According to the spokesperson for the UNS Hospital Covid-19 taskforce, Tonang Dwi Ardyanto dr. SpPK, PhD., in a Virtual Solopos FGD entitled “Covid-19 Handling Strategy in Central Java” on Thursday (17/6/2021) evening, directly clear out this misleading issue. He states that there is no ill intention from the Hospital party to diagnose people without Covid-19 infection with the Covid-19 diagnosis in order to gain incentive from the government.
“Will a hospital get it (t/n: incentive/money)? No. A hospital is only authorized to handle deceased Covid-19 patients. Nothing more. Thus, do not think that a hospital will get significant funding for miss-diagnosing people with Covid,” dr. Tonang explains.
dr. Tonang gives examples of several cases where the Non-Covid suspect who were passed away with no Covid-19 indication were actually positive for Covid-19 infection after a testing by the hospital. This information was shared in front of the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, who was also invited as one of the speakers in Virtual Solopos FGD. Moreover, most cases of patients who died due to Covid-19 are actually due to comorbid or comorbid diseases, such as diabetes, asthma, heart, hypertension, and kidney. The comorbid condition will aggravate the condition of patients who are also positive for Covid-19. “For instance, a recurring hypertension patient with a recurring medical check-up, but suddenly fall ill and passed away with Covid-19, when actually they got heart disease. Coincidentally, the patient was infected with Covid-19 and passed away due to a combination of heart and Covid-19,” dr. Tonang said.
dr. Tonang further urges the resident of Surakarta City not to respond to the issue. For him, the current condition faced by the doctors and medical staff working in a hospital, as well as those who were queueing in the emergency room to get access to the isolation room, both are in bad condition. The surge in positive cases in Surakarta, according to him, has put more pressure on hospital management. Thus, he requested the public not to get emotional when responding to news about Covid-19, which cannot be confirmed.
“Right now, if there are any queues at the emergency room for the Covid-19 patients, actually, both sides are stressed, so it is better to not stir any unwanted misunderstanding. This is an uncomfortable situation for all of us, both the patients and the public. But the fact is, we are currently in overcapacity, and there is an accumulation risk forward,” he concluded.
