UNS — The Biology Education Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a workshop to improve teacher’s skills on “Utilizing Digital-Based Biology Learning Sources”. The workshop was led by Dr. Meti Indrowati, M.Si., a Biology Education Program faculty member. Two speakers were invited to deliver materials, Dr. Bambang Supriatno, M.Si., biology education expert and the Chief of Biology Education Department Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) Bandung, and Abdul Rizal Adompo, S.T., M.T., Content IT Manager SEAMOLEC.
Dr. Bambang delivered the first material on utilizing digital sources for biology education. Dr. Bambang explained diverse learning sources, which require teachers to learn digital sources of learning in his material. “Biology, as a part of science, should provide knowledge, build characters, and maintain the essence of science; process, product, and application. The use of digital learning sources should be able to synergize the content, technology, and pedagogy aspects wisely,” Dr. Bambang explained on Friday (13/8/2021). He also gave an example of using a combination of various tools, for example, smartphone and microscope, as an exciting learning source.
Abdul Rizal Adompo, S.T., M.T., delivered the second material on creating digital learning media using the Nearpod application that can be used by both university teachers and university students who will become school teachers. Nearpod application is equipped with various features that make an interactive and exciting learning process. “For example, the activity time to climbing application to modify quiz into an exciting game. This application also provides diverse resources, such as 3 AR that help students to understand the materials through augmented reality visualization,” he explained.
The workshop was opened by the Dean of FKIP UNS, Dr. Mardiyana, M.Si., with an opening remark from the Head of Biology Education Program, Dr. Muzazzinah, M.Si. This workshop aims to improve skills and knowledge on digital sources of biology learning, especially for teachers and students of the Biology Education Program FKIP UNS and the educational community in general. The event was closed by Dr. Muzazzinah, M.Si., on Saturday (14/8/2021). Participants were had a hands-on practice to create digital learning materials led by Abdul Rizal Adompo, S.T., M.T., on the second day. This workshop was also supported by the Biology Education Student Association and student team that consists of Enggar, Amar, Nathania, Niken, Ilham, Ikhsan, dan Sausan. Humas UNS
