UNS — An amazing achievement was again made by a student of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta. Recently, a student from the Brahmahardhika Student Activity Unit (UKM), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) UNS, won 3rd place in the Dieng Orienteering Race 2022. She is Fatimah Azzahro, who currently sits in the 4th semester of the FKIP UNS Economic Education Program.
The Dieng Orienteering Race is organized by Main Outdoor on the Dieng Plateau Area, Banjarnegara, on Friday-Sunday (27-29/5/2022). Fatimah managed to outperform dozens of participants coming from different regions and countries. When interviewed by uns.ac.id on Saturday (4/6/2022), Fatimah explained the technicalities of the competition she participated in. “Orienteering itself has two types, namely cross event and score event. As for yesterday’s event, it was a cross event, which means participants must run to find designed spots with a map and a compass. The designated points were included on the map, which was listed in the order of 1-16, thus, we have to find the location of the listed point. The rating system is based on the fastest time,” she explained.

The preparation made by Fatimah and her colleagues at UKM Brahmahardhika is extensive. For a month, they attended extensive training at a training center. “So, in Brahmahardhika, there is a division that oversees orienteering activities. Previously for a month, we trained in TC, this training covers physical training and map reading skills as well as other skills that can help us in the race, such as track reading skills. In fact, even eating is strictly supervised, you are not allowed to drink iced beverages and eat spicy foods, it is literally healthy foods,” she added.
The Economic Education student claimed that she was proud of her achievement. “Alhamdulillah, I am proud of this achievement even though I felt a little bit inferior during the TC because my TC results were not as good as others. But I continue to be motivated by my Brahma’s colleagues,” she said.

She hopes to get the optimum result through the training and get better results. “My senior said to never be easily satisfied. There are still many processes to go through,” she concluded. Humas UNS
