UNS — In celebrating the International Disability Days (HDI) 2021, Disability Study Center (PSD) Institute for Research and Community Services (LPPM) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta granted laptops to UNS students with disability from batch 2020 and 2021. Prof. Munawir Yusuf, in the news release received by the uns.ac.id team, mentioned that 32 UNS students with disability received the assistance of IDR 300,000 phone credit, and one student received a laptop that cost IDR 5,000,000. The laptop was handed to Wahyu Nur Sahputri from Development Economics Program 2020 Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNS. The assistance was handed in the webinar HDI held by the Student Association in Special Education Program (HMP PLB) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP).

In his opening remark, Prof. Munawir, as the Chief of PSD LPPM UNS, explained that the phone credits provided for the students with disability aim to support their online learning process. Prof. Munawir also explained that the assistance is the follow-up of the 2020 program as a part of the annual assistance program. Assistances were also provided for prospective students before registration to UNS, during the learning process, and their need for scholarship and learning facilities.

“Alhamdulillah to this day, all students with disability in UNS feel comfortable during the learning process. Some even continued their study to the Master degree and succeeded in completing their study in UNS,” Prof. Munawir stated.

Besides the grants, PSD LPPM UNS also conducted an international seminar on “Utilization of Assistive Technology in Assessment of Learning for Autism” online through the Zoom Cloud Meeting application on Tuesday (7/12/2021). The international seminar was held by Special Education Program (PKh), PSD LPPM UNS, and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) and was opened directly by Prof. Munawir Yusuf, M.Si. The seminar was participated by around 250 participants from faculty members, teachers of Inclusive Education Institution (SPPI), teachers of Early Childhood Education (PAUD), and teachers of Special Education School (SLB).

In his remark, Prof. Munawir underlies the use of assistive technology for people with disabilities as mandated by Law Number 8 of 2016 regarding People with Disability and Law Number 13 of 2020 regarding appropriate accommodation. Further, Prof. Munawir also emphasized the importance of research on assistive technology, especially for students with autism. Six speakers were invited to the seminar. Prof. Gunarhadi from PKh UNS delivered material on assessment and the use of technology in PKh, Dr. Joko Yuwono from PKh UNS shared materials on “Model Development of Digital Assessment for Autism,” and Prof. Dr Faaizah Shahbodin from UTeM discussed the “Assistive Learning Technologies.”

The other speakers are Nor Azmidy bin Ismail from Guru Cemerlang Pendidikan Khas/Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Beruang Melaka Malaysia, who discussed the material on “Speedline Math Adventure Mobile Game for Special Education,” Zareena Rosli from Politeknik Merlimau Melaka who discussed the “Enhancing Mathematics Learning Using Virtual Reality,” and Suriawati Suparjoh from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia who shared materials on “Mobile Augmented Reality as a Learning Engagement Tool for Children with ASD.” This program shows UNS’ commitment as an inclusive campus that will continue improving its performance for disability-friendly services.
