UNS — The Head of Technical Implementational Unit for Student Admission and Selection (UPT SPMB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hadiwiyono, M.Si., delivered few messages for prospective student applicants. Those messages were mentioned during the XLIV Wedangan IKA UNS entitled ‘Success Strategy on 2021 SNMPTN and SBMPTN” on Wednesday (10/2/2021). “My suggestion is to align their interests and talent, as well as being realistic,” Prof. Hadiwiyono states.
According to him, interests and talent are the factors that can boost students’ achievement. Moreover, choosing a study program following students’ interests and talent will accelerate the learning process. He stressed that competition does not occur during the admission selection only, but also during the study period. Further, applicants should also be realistic with their options, with regard to the rules of the selection organizer and the students’ abilities. Applicants should re-consider their competency in the selected field. If they have an excellent competency and are interested as well as talented in the selected field, then without a doubt they can choose the program.
Meanwhile, the Coordinator of Quality Assurance for UPT SPMB UNS, Dr. Moh. Abdul Hakim, S.Psi., M.A., is also stressing the collaboration among the students, school, and parents. If one party does not support the admission or selection process, then, it is unlikely for an applicant to pass the process. “One of the strategies that can be applied by High Schools is to diversify the study program selection, do not encourage all students to enroll in the same study program,” Dr. Moh. Abdul Hakim states.
Under the Permendikbud No. 6 of 2020 regarding New Undergraduate/Bachelor Program Student Admission in State University, there are three admission channels. The three are National Admission Selection for State University (SNMPTN), Joint Admission Selection for State University (SBMPTN), and other selection types (Independent Selection). Referring to this regulation, UNS applies those three selections. The provision regarding SNMPTN and SBMPTN is regulated by the Institution of University Entrance Exams (LTMPT), while the Independent Selection is administered internally by UNS. Humas UNS
