UNS — Friday (13/8/2021) was a historic day for the Faculty of Sports (FKOR) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta because FKOR is officially three years old. The FKOR 3rd Anniversary celebration was held through the Zoom Cloud Meeting platform that does not reduce the celebration’s festivity and nature. An unending wish of a happy anniversary comes from universities, sports institutions, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora).
The celebration took “FKOR UNS 3rd Anniversary: Supporting Indonesian Team in Paralympic Tokyo 2020” as a celebration theme. The Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) RI, Zainudin Amali, attended the celebration and appreciated FKOR UNS roles in assisting Kemenpora to shape excellent athletes in Indonesia, especially in sports for people with disabilities (paragames). Menpora even suggested UNS declare itself as the Center for Research and Development of Sports for People with Disabilities (Paragames) for its success in accompanying Indonesian athletes in Tokyo Paralympic 2020.
In line with the anniversary theme, FKOR prepares the Indonesian team to participate in the Tokyo Paralympic 2020 on 24 August – 5 September 2021 by providing a training site and sending faculty members as trainers for the athletes. The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, shared his proudness for FKOR UNS achievements at a young age by proving its position is supporting Indonesian sports.
“(FKOR UNS) might be young, but at the national and international level, FKOR has a significant contribution, especially in Paralympic in Japan. FKOR UNS faculty members are trusted as the committee, trainers, and managers of Paragames since 2018,” Prof. Jamal stated.
He added that UNS involvement in the Indonesian Paralympic team is the trust from Kemenpora in FKOR UNS capabilities. The success of the Indonesian team in the Tokyo Paralympic 2020 means that FKOR UNS has contributed to bringing proud names to the nation. Prof. Jamal also mentioned the moment of pride and joy when the badminton women double won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympic 2020. The Rector said that the moment was not just a pride and joy, but also the moment Indonesia raised itself to be one of the respected nations in the world.
“If we want to be a big and respected country, we need to think how we could build strong sports champions together so that we could have a respected level in Southeast Asia, Asia, or globally,” Prof. Jamal emphasized.
Becoming champions in sports require great innovation, including innovations in athlete’s training. The Dean of FKOR UNS, Dr. Sapta Kunta Purnama, M.Pd stated that FKOR UNS faculty members are qualified, with more than 50% of the faculty members have a doctoral degree. This qualification affected training provided to FKOR UNS students and brought them to the highest podium in national and international sports championships.
“During these three years, FKOR UNS has provided positive contributions for Universitas Sebelas Maret. Our student brought pride to UNS by winning a national and international championship, in line with our vision to shape human resources with sports knowledge who could perform sports,” Dr. Sapta Kunta stated.
