UNS — The Craft and Tradition Research Group of the Faculty of Arts and Design (FSRD), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, held a training on batik packaging production. This batik packaging is made in ‘Batik Tiga Negeri’ special pattern from Surakarta. The training took place virtually on Saturday (30/10/2021) at Regina Pacis High School Surakarta.
Previously, in 2020 a similar training was carried out. This year’s training acts as a continuation of the previous year’s training. In the previous training, the Regina Pacis High School students were introduced to the Batik Tiga Negeri Surakarta pattern. This year, the students are invited to make packaging for Batik Tiga Negeri Surakarta products to store the products neatly. Moreover, to enhance consumers’ attraction. A tote bag shape is chosen for the packaging, which aims that the packaging can be re-used for various other purposes. In this virtual training, 20 participants were selected, representing students from grades 10 and 11.
“Each student has received tools and materials prepared by Craft and Tradition RG FSRD team. The participants were assisted by UNS students who are members of this community service because of the pandemic conditions limiting people’s mobility. Before the training, the tools and materials were sent to all selected participants first,” said Dr. Sarah Rum Handayani as the Head of Community Service
This training was attended by lecturers and students (RG assistants for research and community service activities), Regina Pacis High School students, and teachers at Regina Pacis High School Surakarta. In his speech, Dr. Sarah invites students to be creative happily. Furthermore, students are invited to watch a tutorial video prepared by the team to facilitate participants’ understanding during the online training.
This training was led by Novia Kartikasari, S.Sn., MA., and Dr. Theresia Widiastuti. The students were quite enthusiastic about participating in this event. Some of them are highly interested in art, and the majority can finish the task according to the instructions and examples provided by the team. For this purpose, the Craft and Tradition RG also created a WhatsApp Online Packaging Production Training group as communication media with the participants, including the teacher at Regina Pacis High School Surakarta. After the event, the students actively consulted their work through the WhatsApp group. Humas UNS
