UNS — The Vocational School (SV), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta is optimistic about creating young millennial entrepreneurs in cattle farming. This statement was conveyed by the Dean of SV UNS, Drs. Santoso Tri Hananto, M.Acc., Ak., after signing the Cooperation Agreement with the Training Center for Animal Health (BBPKH) Cinagara, Bogor on Tuesday (5/4/2022). The agreement was signed directly by the Dean of SV UNS, Drs. Santoso Tri Hananto, M.Acc., Ak., and Head of BBPKH Cinagara, Dr. Wasis Sarjono.
“The world has changed. Today, we must be creative in harnessing knowledge and technology in every sector, including in the cattle farming sector,” Mr. Santoso said. According to him, animal proteins are always needed by humans. The quality of these proteins is primarily determined by livestock management from nursery rearing, husbandry, feed quality, sanitation, and harvesting. “We provide students with professional skills to be able to become millennial livestock farmer entrepreneurs. I am sure that farm automation and mechanization will improve the productivity and quality of farms. This skill becomes one of the skills that students must master,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Head of BBPKH Cinagara, Dr. Wasis Sarjono welcomed the partnership initiative taken by SV UNS, especially for the Three-Years Diploma in Animal Husbandry Study Program (D-3 in Animal Husbandry). “We are certainly delighted with this partnership. The growing interest of the younger generation towards livestock farming is good news that needs immediate responses,” said Dr. Wasis.
According to Dr. Wasis, the present generation must be responsive to change and must be able to be role models for technology transformation in their respective regions. “We had hosted several training packages for young farmers to be able to mobilize and empower other farmers in the area,” added Wasis.
As an embodiment of the two parties’ agreed partnership, three lecturers of the SV UNS Animal Husbandry Study Program are currently participating in a goat and sheep breeding examination training at BBPKH Cinagara. The training is scheduled to last three days until Thursday (7/4/2022). Following the partnership signatory, other activities as part of the collaboration implementation, such as certification of student competencies, especially for poultry supervisors and halal slaughterhouses schemes, will pursue.
BBPKH Cinagara Bogor is one of the Technical Implementation Units (UPT) of the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan). This UPT organizes expert and skill training for technical and managerial officers, special skill training for non-apparatus such as farmers, breeders, and stakeholders of the agricultural community in general, including lecturers and students.
