UNS, Klaten – The Fine Arts Education Program in the Faculty of the Faculty Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held international event ‘Art Edu Care’ under the theme of Distinct Set in Dukuh Kalangan, Glodogan Village, Klaten Selatan Subdistrict, Klaten district on Friday (7/2/2020) until Sunday (9/2/2020).

The annual event aims to enliven the UNS anniversary that will be commemorated in March. The event consists of three parts, the parallel event, pre-event, and main event.

The parallel event is successfully conducted last week; the Fine Arts Education program together with the Dukuh Kalangan community, especially the young, made several works such as a mural, eco print, and custom painting. On the first day, a silaturahmi with the local community is conducted to inform the people about the ongoing activities. The local community was very enthusiastic proved from the presence of the village chief during the coordination meeting.

Diverse activities were held on the second day. Together with the local community, the students of Fine Arts Education program held a workshop on eco print; making a pattern in plain cloth using natural material such as leaves. It has an easy method, first place the leaves under a plain cloth, then hit the fabric with stones or something similar, the desired pattern will appear on the fabric. There was also custom painting; drawing/painting on the desired object. For the occasion, the custom painting was performed on a jacket and tote bag.

Eco-art held on Sunday to close the parallel event. Eco-art focuses on environmental awareness. In this activity, a village clean activity is carried out and the students help people to transform the unused items into artwork. There are an abundant of coconut shell that transformed into pots of decorative plants by adding interesting painting and later display it. In this last event, the participants also created murals that have local wisdom themes, such as gamelan and batik.

The chairman of Art Edu Care 2020, Philipus Diko Sukmo Wibowo expected that this event will provide benefits to all participants.

“I expected that we will be able to invite friends into togetherness and be more sensitive to the environment. We should not be stuck with technology, especially the negative things. We have to utilize technology well and hopefully through this parallel event we can provide benefits to all,” stated Philipus. Humas UNS/Zalfaa
