UNS — Proud achievement was accomplished by Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta student from Physician Program Faculty of Medical Science (FK), Faizal Muhammad. Faizal won 2nd place in Surakarta Mini Triathlon 2022.
The national competition was held by Indonesia Triathlon Series and was participated by tens of participants from all over Indonesia. Mini Triathlon 2022 was held on Saturday (5/3/2022) in Manahan Stadium, Surakarta. Faizal recorded 01:07:32.91 and placed second.
A triathlon is a competition that consists of several sports, swimming, bike racing, and running, held concurrently. Faizal admitted that he was delighted with the result, especially in the midst of his new activities as a young doctor in a hospital and community health center, and research, that did not allow him to train. “But discipline and using my morning time to train allowed me to train daily. Winning 2nd place in my triathlon debut is delightful. Next event, I will come back stronger and more resilient,” he stated to uns.ac.id, Tuesday (15/3/2022).
He also explained that he trained individually based on his medical anatomy and physiology knowledge to develop training regiments needed for triathlon. This includes a dietary program during the training. Faizal explained that he started swimming in elementary school, bike racing, and running in high school. “For this triathlon, I trained two months before the event,” he added.
His training regimen included freestyle swimming in 50 m x 50 m Manahan and Intanpari pools after Fajr, 10 km run after swimming, and 30 km biking after his service in the hospital and community health center. The training brought him nearly to the first position with only a two-second difference.
“The difference from the 1st place was only 2 seconds. There was a sad, disappointed, and sorry feeling. However, that’s the result of my training,” he added.
The first triathlon event in Solo consisted of 400 m swimming, 15 km biking, and 5 km running. Humas UNS
