UNS — Thematic Student Community Service Program (KKN Tematik) of Humanities Faculty of Medical Science (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta is concluded. The community service program integrated with the Serbuan Vaksinasi Covid-19 UNS was concluded on Friday (20/8/2021) through an offline ceremony after the end of the UNS vaccination program in FK UNS Hall. Vice-Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs FK UNS, Paramasari Dirgahayu, dr., Ph.D., and the Chief of Serbuan Vaksinasi Covid-19 Team UNS closed the program directly.
This KKN program was participated by students at the 6th semester in Medicine Education Program FK UNS. Unlike other KKN programs that focus on the rural area, this KKN was integrated into the Serbuan Vaksinasi Covid-19 UNS program that started on 1 July 2021. This KKN was implemented for two months under careful consideration.
The consideration for this program was the time period for the KKN. According to the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, KKN program is included in the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program, which shifted the credit semesters from 2 credits into 20 credits or equal to a six months KKN program. However, this policy is considered unsuitable for Medicine Education Program students who are programmed to complete their study in 7 semesters instead of eight semesters like other programs. To cover this gap, the Vice-Dean and Vice-Rector had a discussion that found this middle ground through this KKN program.
Paramasari Dirgahayu, dr., Ph.D., stated that this KKN was categorized into two groups, online and offline groups. The offline group was tasked to assist in implementing Serbuan Vaksinasi Covid-19 UNS held in FK UNS Hall every day from 1 July—20 August 2021. The online team is tasked to accompany Covid-19 suspects who go through self-quarantine. Although these suspects cannot be assisted physically, they need supervision over their health condition. The online team consisted of 13 students out of 262 students that participated in this KKN program. The online team consists of students who live far away from UNS or those with health conditions that hindered them from participating in offline programs.
Completed Proudly
Vice-Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs FK UNS appreciated this program and stated that the offline and online teams were agile in implementing their program and evaluating their daily activities. They also have the great initiative in providing a suggestion for the vaccination program. The Vice-Dean also added that she taught her students to plan all activities, and once they agreed to implement the vaccination for an increasing number of people, she asked them to prepare a cost analysis. “Try, home many numbers of vaccine tables, how many for screening, vaccination speed, and other things. I asked them to count. I asked them to present. Alhamdulillah, they could do it,” dr. Sari, her short name, explained.
dr. Sari is also happy with this KKN program because even though students were stationed in one place, but they have different roles each day. The offline team has several roles: registration team, screening team, vaccinator team, observer team, and educator team, who all implemented their roles well. Each student has role exchange every day so that they could experience all roles in the program. This system is vital to improve their ability and competency.
“I always reminded them that ‘you are an agent of change’ and what you got here will be rich with competencies. Here (UNS), (you) get medical knowledge, you get communication knowledge, your get entrepreneurship knowledge, and sincerity from a religious perspective, because (they are) in contact with the community with diverse characters,” dr. Sari said.
With these competencies, the participants are expected to be ready when they were asked to take action in the community. This is a certainty because they will be directly implementing it in the community around them after receiving their doctor qualification. This KKN program is expected to equip them to be ready for that time. Humas UNS
