UNS — Global Issues Study Research Group of International Relations Program (HI) Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a community service program to develop Mojorejo Village in Karangmalang Subdistrict, Sragen District into an independent rural tourism destination. The program was held in the Madrasah Diniyah Takmiliyah “Matholi’ul Falah” Ledok Hamlet, Mojorejo Village on Monday (1/11/2021).
The community service program leader, Drs. Ign. Agung Satyawan S.E., S.Ikom., M.Si., Ph.D., stated that the program focuses on developing rural potential with the presence of Kembangan Dam that could be developed into a tourism destination. The local women, who mostly are ex-migrant employees, also have the skills to create a woven bag that could support tourism development by providing local souvenirs. Both potential serve as valuable capital in developing a rural tourism destination.
“We invited local housewives who are ex-migrant workers in Mojorejo Village and MSMEs members from Karangmalang Subdistrict. Mojorejo Village is one of the Productive Migrant Villages (Desmigratif) that the majority of its people are ex-migrant workers who have returned to their hometown,” Agung explained.
The program introduced the importance of branding for home industry products, the woven bag. The socialization on the importance of branding and brand was explained by Aulia Suminar Ayu, S.IKom, M.IKom, a faculty member of Communication Science Program FISIP UNS. The socialization runs for two hours with discussion and a question-and-answer session in between the material presented.
Karangmalang Subdistrict MSMEs team also provided encouragement for the participants in developing their village potential. The event also attempted to synergize all the existing potentials into a vision and mission to build Mojorejo Village under an organization that could manage all resources and elements in the village.
The community service team also has a commitment to support the activities of Mojorejo Village housewives to continue creating excellent products that could compete and be marketable through exciting branding, which is expected to improve family and surrounding community’s welfare. Humas UNS
