UNS — ASEAN Para Games 2022, scheduled to be held in Vietnam early this year, is officially rescheduled to be hosted by Indonesia. Surakarta is selected as the host for the sports championship for athletes with disabilities in ASEAN, which brings significant potential in supporting the industrial and tourism sectors in Surakarta.
To discuss this great potential, the Faculty of Sports (FKOR) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a webinar collaborating with MNC Portal and Sportstars.id. MNC Portal is an online news outlet under the management of MNC Group with Sportstars.id as its sports-focused channel.
The webinar on Tuesday (8/2/2022) was held online through the Zoom Cloud Meeting application with the “Potential of ASEAN Para Games in Supporting the Industrial and Outirsm Sectors” as its webinar theme. Ma’ruf El Rumi, the Managing Editor Sportstars.id and Febriani Fajar Ekawati, M.Or., Ph.D., FKOR UNS Faculty Member, and Indonesian Society for Adapted Physical Education (ISAPE) were invited as the speakers in the webinar. The Dean of FKOR UNS, Dr. Sapta Kunta Purnama, stated that the webinar aligns with FKOR UNS’ vision and mission to develop relations with sports media.
“We greatly appreciate this event and collaboration because it is in line with FKOR’s vision and missions in building national and global collaboration in sports. We also appreciate the discussion regarding ASEAN Para Games because Vietnam withdrew itself from hosting the event, (thus), FKOR and I, as a manager in NPC Indonesia, tried to bring ASEAN Para Games to be hosted in Indonesia,” Dr. Sapta stated.
MNC Portal Indonesia Director of News Reporting, Yadi Hendriana, also welcomed the webinar and extended his gratitude to FKOR UNS for hosting the webinar.
“My gratitude to UNS for providing an opportunity for MNC Portal to participate in the discussion and facilitated us to share our views on sports,” Yedi stated.
The webinar was participated by tends of FKOR UNS students and faculty members. Febriani Fajar Ekawati, M.Or., Ph.D., as the first speaker, shared that ASEAN Para Games has various potentials in supporting the industrial sector, such as developing sports infrastructure, sports events, training, broadcasting rights and media, and productions of goods. The bi-annual sports championship will also boost the tourism sector through the increased hotel accommodations and culinary services.
