7 university students from Taiwan join UNS Cultural Course 2018 from Monday (6/8/2018) to Sunday (19/8//2018) to learn Javanese language and culture.

This program is offered for university partners and the international community to get to know Javanese culture through language and cultural learning programs which are arranged in classroom learning models and fieldtrips. The Javanese culture taught includes batik, gamelan (traditional music instrument), dance, and traditional Javanese clothing. As for fieldtrips, the destinations are Keris Museum, Batik Museum, Sukuh Temple, Borobudur Temple, gamelan producers, and Mangkunegaran Temple.

In addition to visiting historical and cultural sites, the participants spent two days in a village on the slopes of Merapi to interact with local communities and experience the daily lives of the villagers such as farming and making coffee. They are also introduced to the culture that prevails in the local community such as wayang suket, karawitan, and art of stringing.

“I am very enthusiastic to join this activity. I am interested in learning Indonesian language and culture as well as to taste Indonesian culinary,” Chia-Ju, a National Sun Yat-sen University National Engineering Faculty graduate student, stated.

This program is expected to expand the name of UNS and increase cross-cultural understanding by learning Indonesian language, culture, and arts, especially Solo and Java. For international audiences, this program provides the opportunities for them to be directly involved in the natural, social, and Indonesian culture. humas-red.uns.ac.id/Ath/Dty
