UNS — A team of Student Community Service Program (KKN) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta conducted an educative campaign using murals. Group 71 KKN UNS in Goligo Hamlet, Gondanglegi Village, Klego Subdistrict, Boyolali District created a mural to educate the community on dengue fever prevention from Friday (17/2/2022) to Sunday (19/2/2022).
The Group Leader, Agus Riyanto, stated that the mural creation process is a medium for campaigning the 3M movement (cleaning, covering, and burying of Menguras, Menutup, dan Mengubur) in preventing dengue fever.
“Campaign using mural is a new media to educate the community because it is considered more interesting than through pamphlet,” Agus Riyanto explained.
The effort is a preventive measure considering the dengue fever claimed the life of people in GOligo Hamlet in 2016. The effort was appreciated by the Gondanglegi Village Chief, Chief of RT, and local people.
“This activity is good; if it is for the community, I agree,” Sungkono, Gondanglegi Village Chief, stated.
Waste and environmental hygiene are the main causes of dengue issues in the hamlet. Therefore, in addition to the mural campaign, the team also prepared waste disposal at several sites and allowed the community to dispose of their wastes in these predetermined places.
“We also provided painted trash cans to attract people’s attention in several places approved by the Village Chief. There was also a socialization program regarding waste disposal in MI Nurul Hidayah Grumbulijo. This socialization aims to teach the community, especially school children, to put waste in the right places,” Agus Riyanto added.
Under the supervision of Andriko Sandria, M.A., Agus Riyanto hoped that the mural and waste bins they provided could benefit the community. Humas UNS
