UNS — The Excellent Student Contest (Pilmapres) at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta level will be held soon. To prepare the students for the prestigious contest, the Excellent Student Association (Imapres) held Sekolah Mahasiswa Berprestasi 2021 (School for Excellence). The school invited Dr. Agr. Sc. Ernoiz Antriyandarti, Dr. Muhammad Hendri, Wuji Anggraini, M.Pd., Rizka Lailatul Rohmah, Imam Arifin, M. Abdulnaim, Nadya Anggraini, A.Md., and Rabita Madina as instructors.
The event was held online through the Zoom Cloud Meeting application was attended by 200 students from various Programs and years of admissions in UNS. The first day’s material was the introduction on Pilmapres, creative ideas, and public speaking. The second day’s materials cover the discussion on group synergy, English, impromptu speech, national awareness, personal branding, and best achievement.
Ernoiz, Faculty Member of Agribusiness Program, Faculty of Agriculture (FP) UNS, explained that students participating in Pilmapres must meet the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) requirements. These requirements including listed in the Higher Education Database, no older than 22 years old, minimum GPA of 3.00, and attach a cover letter from the university.
“(The contest) assess not only the GPA, but also academic and non-academic achievements, and creative ideas in the form of scientific writing. Foreign language skill is also assessed in Pilmapres,” she explained on Friday (12/3/2021).
The material was followed by public speaking discussion delivered by M. Abdulnaim, who shared the steps to speak in front of the public. These steps can be categorized into the preparation stage and execution stage. A speaker should prepare materials, vocal warm-up, training or rehearsal, and mental preparation in the preparation stage, and pay attention to the vocal technique, expression, gestures, and performance in the execution stage.
“In a public speaking, 7% in on our words, 38% on intonation or vocal, and 58% on gestures,” he explained. Abdulnaim also shared tips to be a master of ceremony, moderator, and host of an event. A person needs to pay attention to determining the objectives, maintaining interaction, opening with rhetoric, questions, quotes, prepared slick material, and closing with a summary or slogan.
The last material of the first day was delivered by Imam Arifin, UNS Excellent Student of 2020 from the Undergraduate Program. Imam explained that there are different creative ideas between Diploma and Undergraduate Program. Undergraduate Program Pilmapres focuses on concept or strategy while Diploma Program focuses on end products, both goods or application. In writing creative ideas, students need to determine the topic or idea from reading online news, journals, books and observing their surroundings. “Then prepare an outline or framework to ease the writing process, start and be consistent in writing, after that we can ask other’s suggestions, both from our friends or teachers,” he explained.
The materials in the last day cover team synergy delivered by Rabita Madina, the 1st winner of National Mawapres 2020, English provided by Wuji Anggraini, M.Pd., trainer in UNS Pilmapres UNS, impromptu speech delivered by Muflih Dwi Fikri, the Founder of Global Millennial Group, and National Awareness provided by Dr. Muhammad Hendri, Faculty Member of Pancasila and Civics Education Program UNS, personal branding delivered by Nadya Anggraini, A.Md., National Mawapres for Diploma Program, and best achievement provided by Rizka Lailatul Rohmah, UNS Mawapres for Diploma Program 2020.
