UNS — The Mandarin Language Center (PBM) of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta celebrated its 4th anniversary on Saturday (11/3/2023). This special moment also coincided with the 47th Dies Natalis UNS. The event, which took place in the Mangkunegaran UNS Inn room, was attended by UNS PBM partners, the Rector of Xihua University, Prof. LIU Shugen and entourage.

In addition, it was also attended by 3 Vice Rectors of UNS, namely Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Ahmad Yunus; Research and Innovation Sector, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo; and the Field of Planning, Cooperation, Business and Information, Prof. Sajidan; as well as parties from PBM UNS and invited guests. Throughout the event, two languages were used, they were Indonesian and Mandarin.

The Director of the Chinese Mandarin Language Center for China, Ms. Lucy, M.Sc., delivered her remarks in Mandarin which was translated into Indonesian. He thanked all those who attended this activity.

During the 4 years since the establishment of PBM UNS, it has played a role in the development of Mandarin language education and Chinese culture in the international sphere and the wider community. “With all these success, it certainly does not escape the support of UNS and also Xihua University. We hope that in the future, PBM UNS can further improve the quality of education in Mandarin and Chinese culture in Indonesia,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo, gave a speech in Indonesian then translated into Mandarin. According to him, the anniversary of PBM UNS was very special because it was celebrated at the same time as the Dies Natalis UNS. “This moment will continue to be repeated every year, the difference is only in numbers. We also thank all who attended, including Xihua University,” he said.

In this agenda, there were 2 sub-events that were held on the same day, namely the Researcher Discussion Forum and the Soft Launching of the Mandarinable Journal. Prof. Kuncoro hopes that the discussions that took place between UNS and Xihua University researchers could illuminate the dreams and aspirations of the Confucius Institute together.

“We all know that the culture in China is extraordinary. To the extent that there is a statement that demand knowledge goes to China. This is an extraordinary vision, meaning that there is something extraordinary in China. So we believe that the synergy together with PBM UNS in the future, the field of cooperation will be even wider,” Prof. Kuncoro concluded. Humas UNS
