UNS — The Team of Village Development and Empowerment Holistic Program (PHP2D) Student Executive Board (BEM) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held an orchid cultivation training and barcode creation and management training in Plosorejo Village, Matesih Subdistrict, Karanganyar District as a part of an edu-creation program in the village. The training that was held in Plosorejo Village Hall was attended by Orchid Farmer Group, Plosorejo villagers, and Plosorejo Karang Taruna. This training is the first training of three orchid cultivation training planned by the PHP2D BEM UNS Team.

Ir. Lila Natasaputra, Manager of Indonesian Orchid Association Chapter Salatiga and Puspanda Hatta, S.Kom., M.Eng., was invited to deliver materials on orchid cultivation and barcode creation. Dr. Septi Yulisetiani, M.Pd., as the supervisor of the program, appreciated the training and stated that it was an exciting training that attracted local people’s enthusiasm and positive initiative from the team. She hoped that the training would benefit and be applicable for Plosorejo villagers.

“The training on orchid management and a web-based barcode that can be implemented in the orchid green house could benefit the local community and hopefully what learned from this training can be implemented by Plosorejo people to maximize the orchid green house as an edu-creation for Plosorejo people and surrounding communities,” Dr. Septi stated.

The training introduced two components of the edu-recreation orchid green house program implemented by PHP2D BEM UNS. Orchid cultivation training was provided to ensure that Plosorejo Orchid Farmers Group could maintain the orchid green house in the future. The barcode training was provided to create a barcode for each orchid cultivated in the green house and provides additional information for visitors. A participant mentioned that the training runs well and greatly supports Plosorejo and Kedungdowo Farmer Group to share the supporting experience.

“Hopefully, it can be better in the future,” Sarnianti, a representative of the farmer group, stated. Sri Satini, another training participant, also stated a similar response that the training enriches knowledge on orchids, and she hoped that future training would be better and help Plosorejo people more.

Before the training on Saturday (4/9/2021) was concluded, Didin Ardi Hidayat, as the Leader of PHP2D BEM UNS Team, and Dr. Septi Yulisetiani, M.Pd., handed a token of appreciation for the speakers. The training was concluded with a group photo session with all trainees.  Humas UNS
