UNS — Another news of victory from the national level competition came from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta students from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) who won 2nd place in the Innovative Learning Media Design Competition 5.0. The team consisted of Alwannuha Fatah N. (Structural Engineering Education /2018), Mutiara Hana Huwaida (Elementary School Teacher Education/2020), and Riska Nurhayati (Structural Engineering Education/2019) won the competition held by Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa).
Alwannuha stated to uns.ac.id that in the competition on Engineering Creativity Design Competition from 1 November to 15 December 2021, the team submitted a virtual learning media based on immersive multimedia. The media they developed offer virtual class development using the Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) tools. The mobile application was developed for the students at elementary school to senior high school and vocational high school (SMA/SMK).
“We also included unique features, such as virtual class, learning video, awarding, mentoring, book store, biometric attendance, and other educational content to ease the users,” Alwannuha stated on Thursday (6/1/2022).
He added that the idea was inspired by the online learning process that often causes boredom for students and the lack of effectiveness in the learning model. The team was also inspired by Mark Zuckerberg, who developed metaverse for Facebook.
“So we tried to apply in on the learning media application. The information we collected was summarized into a design of learning media,” he added.
The competition was participated by students from various universities in Indonesia. The early selection process asked them to send their design for Best 10 elimination that was followed by a presentation and winner’s announcement on 15 December. Alwannuha stated that they were delighted with the result because previously, they only reached runner-up place. He hoped that their achievement could encourage them to continue working and not give up easily.
“We believed that the best results came from the best efforts,” Alwannuha concluded. Humas UNS
