UNS — The Center for Javanologi (PUI Javanologi) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has prepared various breakthrough programs for 2021. This information was delivered by the Head of PUI Javanologi UNS, Prof. Sahid Teguh Widodo, in a press conference “UNS Java Metric 10 Nominees 2021”, Tuesday (22/3/2021) afternoon, at Pendopo PUI Javanologi UNS (PUI Javanologi Great Hall).
The programs prepared are, among others, ludruk class, traditional dance class, tembang (t/n: singing), kethoprak class, and reog class. The trainer/supervisor for each class will be lecturers from UNS with art and culture specialty.
“We realize that during this pandemic, Javanologi cannot prepare usual programs like the one available before the pandemic. Therefore, we tried to find a way to get the products in 2021 that can be accepted under the current condition,” Prof. Sahid said.
In front of the media reporters, Prof. Sahid who is also UNS Professor in Onomastics, states that the PUI Javanologi UNS will finish the scheme for the establishment of a Professional Certification Institution (LSP).
This LSP is prepared to provide professional certification for the master of ceremony (pambiwara). In Javanese culture, a pambiwara is a person with special skills in Javanese literature and language who can lead events in Javanese society.
“Moreover, we had finished one of the schemes, the LSP establishment. Thus, we will establish a professional certification for Pambiwara. Therefore, in the long-term, most of the cultural activities in the Solo Palace will be moved to UNS, but under a different context,” Prof. Sahid reveals while joking.
Additionally, Prof. Sahid added that his party will launch the “Javanologi for Cultural Studies” Journal. This journal is designed to accommodate UNS lecturers and students’ publications under related topics.
“Actually, this is responding to the requirements for the students in Master and Doctoral program, as well as the lecturers to publish their research article in a scientific journal. Thus, we will publish it, this will be the first and second issues for the fourth volume. We wish this will be achieved this year,” he added.
On this occasion, the Secretary of the PUI Javanologi UNS, Prof. Diah Kristina, explains that the PUI Javanologi UNS also intends to promote the Javanese language as a computer course instruction language.
Prof. Diah further states that translation from various languages such as French, Dutch, and English to Javanese can bring more benefits for translators.
“Indeed, Javanese language is important if you want to pursue a career as interpreter (translator) from English, Dutch, and French to Javanese. This was a wonderful advancement and a Javanese language appreciation,” Prof. Diah concluded. Humas UNS
