UNS — The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Dr. Jamal. Wiwoho, SH, M.Hum., inaugurates two new Professors from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UNS, Tuesday (8/3/2022). They are Prof. Nuryani, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., as a Professor in Medical Instrumentation Sciences and Prof. Dr. Prabang Setyono, S.Si., M.Si., as a Professor in Environmental Pollution Sciences.
The inauguration was carried out at the G.P.H. Haryo Mataram UNS Auditorium. This event was also available virtually via Zoom Cloud Meeting and was broadcasted through the UNS Youtube channel. This ceremony is special because it coincides with the 46th UNS Anniversary celebrated on Friday (11/3/2022). Prof. Nuryani became the 21st Professor in FMIPA and the 246th Professor in UNS. Meanwhile, Prof. Prabang became the 22nd Professor in FMIPA and the 247th Professor in UNS.
The Open Academic Senate Session is presided over directly by Prof. Adi Sulistiyono, S.H. MH, as the Chairman of the UNS Academic Senate. Meanwhile, the two UNS Professors’ inauguration was led by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, SH, M. Hum. In his remark, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho pointed out UNS commitments in meeting its ideal number Professor. He also reminded one of the essential requirements for acquiring this functional position, namely the contribution of a Professor’s knowledge and expertise as a form of moral responsibility for the benefit of society and the progress of the nation. “This Professor inauguration proves UNS commitments to continue to accomplish its performance targets, to meet the ideal number of Professor in UNS, following its initial commitment during the transformation into PTNBH,” explained Prof. Jamal
Prof. Jamal also encouraged the professors not only to be proud and successful in collecting various awards in the academic field but also to successfully implement every idea and the intellectual idea that is related to the needs of changing times.
Prof. Drs. Suratno, M.Sc., Ph.D., Chairman of the Board of Professor UNS, in his remarks, recalled a glimpse of the history of the establishment of FMIPA. He recounted that his seniors, at that time, advised that the establishment of FMIPA not only developed pure science but also applied science. This suggestion aims to establish a unique FMIPA in contrast to the existing FMIPA.
The message is now proved by the innovations created by the two Professors who have just been inaugurated. Prof. Nuryani’s innovation in developing electrocardiogram-based medical instrumentation to support the independence of medical devices in Indonesia is expected to open collaboration with various hospitals.
Similar things were also done by Prof. Prabang in his expertise. He proposed mitigating environmental pollution from the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) perspective, which places ecology as a consideration in sustainable development.
“The two newly inaugurated young professors are talented young figures who are active in their respective fields. Therefore, at their young age, they have occupied the highest position as a university lecturer, under the academic degree of Professor,” said Prof. Suratno. Humas UNS
