UNS — The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum., inaugurated UNS Inclusion Matrics on Wednesday (17/8/2022). The inauguration was held in the Danau UNS Terrace, which coincided with the 77th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) Independence Day Celebration. Led by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M. Hum., the inauguration also launched the UNS Inclusion Matrics developed by the Center for Disability Study (PSD), Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM) UNS.

“UNS Inclusion Matrics is a positive initiative to measure the development of disability-friendly facilities implementation in Higher Education (PT) in Indonesia. At the same time, it also encourages Higher Education institutions to be a disability-friendly inclusive campus,” said Prof. Jamal in his speech.

Prof. Jamal also hopes that UNS and other Higher Education institutions throughout Indonesia can provide wider opportunities to fulfill the rights of people with disabilities, especially in the Higher Education sector. “Aside from measuring the inclusion implementation level at a Higher Education institution, UNS Inclusion Matrics can also be the foundation for a university (higher education institution) to issue inclusive education-related policies, how Higher Education builds an inclusive culture, implementation of inclusive education practices in the academic field, and implement matters related to administration, student affairs, and disability-friendly infrastructure,” continued Prof. Jamal.

A congratulatory message for the inauguration of UNS Inclusion Matric was delivered by the Chairman of the Board of Professor UNS, Prof. Suranto Tjiptowibisono, M.Sc., Ph.D. Prof. Suranto also hopes that UNS Inclusion Matrics can be a pioneer for inclusive campuses in Indonesia and can make a significant contribution to providing opportunities for disability communities in Indonesia.

The Coordinating Minister for Human and Cultural Development (Menko PMK) of the Republic of Indonesia, Muhadjir Effendy, said that UNS Inclusion Matrics could increase inclusiveness at Higher Education Institutions in Indonesia. “Greatest appreciation to UNS for becoming a pioneer in the establishing Inclusion Matrics as a Higher Education institution’s effort in developing a disability-friendly inclusive campus,” said Muhadjir.

Furthermore, the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) of the Republic of Indonesia, Zainudin Amali, said that the inauguration of UNS Inclusion Matrics was an extraordinary achievement. Zainudin Amali also believes that UNS will be successful in implementing the UNS Inclusion Matrics program.

“Congratulations and success on the launching of UNS Inclusion Matrics. Hopefully, this launching can be a trigger for other Higher Education institutions to participate in fulfilling the rights of people with disabilities in Indonesia,” concluded Zainudin Amali. Humas UNS
