UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a student inauguration ceremony for the Diploma, Bachelor, Postgraduate, and Specialist Doctor Education in the 2021/2022 Academic Year on Friday (13/8/2021). The online and offline ceremony was attended by the university executive board and all UNS new students for the 2021/ 2022 academic year.

The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, inaugurated 12,598 people as new UNS students for the 2021/ 2022 academic year. As a symbolic inauguration, a representative is selected to place a student ID on themselves, followed by all other participants.

“On behalf of the UNS executive board and myself, I welcome you as UNS academic members,” Prof. Jamal stated.

Prof. Jamal also reminded the new students to have open views, awareness, flexibility, creativity, and innovativeness. He thinks these characters are vital in the changing era when everybody is demanded to use their intellect and new behavior in their activities.

“I hope that you will use this opportunity to start predicting the future and turn a condition into a strategy,” Prof. Jamal added.

The Rector also emphasized that students need to develop their curiosity to build their inner motivation. Thus, they could grow into resilient persons ready to face continuous changes, in line with UNS mission to shape its graduates into leading generations.

The Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs UNS, Prof. Ahmad Yunus, reported that the Selection of New Student Admission Examination (SPMB) UNS 2021 was held through eight tracks. For the Diploma Program, the Chairman of SPMB UNS 2021 mentioned that UNS opened three tracks: Main Diploma Admission Examination (SUMD), Standalone Diploma Examination (SMMD), and Interest and Skills Admission Examination Track (PMDK). For the bachelor program, the admission tracks are National Selection for Public University Admission (SNMPTN), Collective Selection for Public University Admission (SBMPTN), and UNS Standalone Admission (SM UNS). In Magister and Doctoral program, the admission was conducted through the Postgraduate Program Admission.

From all of the eight tracks, Prof. Ahmad Yunus reported that the acceptance ratio SPMB UNS 2021 was 1:11, 12,598 out of 143,586 applicants were accepted by the university. The Bachelor’s program had the most significant number of applicants, with a total of 128,146 people, and only 9,325 were accepted. Therefore, Prof. Yunus added that the acceptance ratio for UNS bachelor programs is 1:14, followed by Diploma program with 1:5, Master and Specialist Doctor with 1:2, and Doctoral Program with 1:1.
