UNS — The Community Service (KKN) Group 134 from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta is urging the residents of Banmati Sub-district to overcome the problem of plastic waste through ecobricks. This program was led by Ryan Brilian Fatsena, a student from the Informatics and Computer Technology Education Study Program (PTIK) FKIP UNS.

This program is supported by Prof. Dr. Cicilia Dyah Sulistyaningrum Indrawati, M.Pd., who serves as the Field Supervising Lecturer (DPL) for the KKN Group 134 UNS. In this Ecobrick program, the UNS KKN group invites the community to participate in collecting plastic waste and transforming it into a construction materials known as ecobricks. The students initiated the ecobrick-making program during the 5th week of KKN activities in Banmati Sub-district, Sukoharjo on Wednesday (9/8/2023).

Furthermore, on Sunday (13/8/2023) the KKN Group 134 UNS provided a socialization event introducing ecobricks with the theme “Unlocking the Ecobrick Magic: Filling the World with Creative Solutions”. These ecobricks can be used to create various items, including benches, as a creative effort to utilize long-lasting plastic waste. The main objective of this program is to reduce the negative effects of plastic waste and enhance environmental awareness among the community.

“We want to encourage the community, especially the women of the PKK RT 04 RW 04 Bedinding, Banmati Sub-district, Sukoharjo, to actively participate in reducing plastic waste by transforming it into useful items,” Ryan Brilian Fatsena said.

Positive responses also came from the local sub-district officials, including Widodo. He appreciated the efforts of the KKN Group from FKIP UNS in presenting a creative solution to the plastic waste issue in the area.

“I hope this program will inspire the community to be more environmentally conscious and contribute to overcoming the plastic waste problem,” he said.

With this Ecobrick program, the FKIP UNS KKN Group has not only created a tangible solution to reduce plastic waste but has also inspired the community to play an active role in maintaining environmental cleanliness. This program is expected to be the first step in embracing positive change in the preservation of the environment in the future.
