UNS — Facing the Covid-19 is the duty of people from all walks of life. Each person has a role and responsibility in breaking the chain of Covid-19 infection. University students have a responsibility to serve the community, and Group 177 of Student Community Service Program (KKN) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta planned a rural development program as their service for the community.
The Rural Development Program was implemented in Klodran Village, Colomadu, Karanganyar, Central Java, in August 2021, particularly on Sunday (28/8/2021). The program includes education in each RT in RW 04 Klodran Village. The Group educated the community on the importance of implementing 5M; wearing a mask, washing hands, physical distancing, avoiding crowds, and reducing mobility.
Group 177 also encourages the community to consume herbal drinks such as wedang uwuh, to improve their immune system. The Group even gave tips for the local community to cultivate Family Medicinal Plants (Toga) at home.
“Rural Development activities were conducted to assist Klodran Village to be a more developed village in line with the sustainable development developed by the UNS in 2015,” Monica Rhasintya, Group 177 KKN UNS coordinator, explained.
Through the program, Monica hoped that the community could understand sustainable development in terms of health, cleanliness, and green program. The Rural Development Program was appreciated by the Chief of RW 04 Klodran, Heru. To the Group, Heru shared his gratitude for the program implementation. He even appreciated some programs further, such as sorting garbage disposal, hand washing basin, Toga plant seeds, and hand kit distribution.
“Hopefully, all of these programs could educate and benefit the community and become a blessing for everyone,” Heru said.
The hand wash basin and waste bin were distributed in several strategic places such as Mantren Hamlet Mosque, Klodran Volleyball court, shopping center, RW 10 meeting hall, and Pos Ronda (neighborhood security post) RT 5.
“The main objective of this activity is to improve knowledge on the importance of maintaining the immune system and implement health protocols. Therefore, we hope that Covid-19 can be handled fully,” Rona, Group 177 member, said. Humas UNS
