UNS — Another international achievement was made by Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta students. This time the achievement came from students of the Cultural Studies Program from UNS Postgraduate School, Bayu Aji Prasetya. Bayu, who is currently in his 1st semester of postgraduate study, has just won 3rd place in an international poetry writing competition organized by Rotary International District 3011 New Delhi, India.
The competition was organized to commemorate India’s Independence Day, starting on January 1 to 26, virtually. Bayu wrote a piece article on sari fabric as a traditional fabric from India for the competition. “So, I choose to write about the sari. Maybe it’s like a batik here in Surakarta. Well, I try to read numerous journal articles about sari, its use, and its usage among young people there,” explained Bayu, Monday (14/2/2022).
After doing a little research, Bayu put his current knowledge into a written article, marveling at the beauty of sari. Bayu revealed that the background to selecting sari fabric topics was due to limited insight into Indian culture. “From various cultural showcases, I see young people from India wearing sari more often. So, I must dig my previous understanding or knowledge on this subject, so I don’t have to look for too many references and repeat the process from zero. Moreover, I can use batik as an analogy for sari fabric to interpret my thought,” he added.
The competition was attended by many students and the general public from various countries. Bayu admitted that he was exhilarated and could not believe the announcement as the 3rd place champion. “Alhamdulillah, I am delighted and grateful to get 3rd place. This achievement is a beautiful gift at the beginning of the year and the beginning of the semester. Previously, I also submitted a poster to the same competition, but I didn’t win, so I didn’t expect my writing to win instead. It turns out to be an unexpected win,” said Bayu.
He hopes that this accomplishment can further spur his enthusiasm in his work and achievements, as well as contribute to UNS achievements. Humas UNS
