UNS — Student Association (HMP) in Special Education Program (Pkh) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a Sign Language Learning Program (Belajar Bahasa Isyarat – BEBAS) from the first week of November to the third week of December 2021. The event was the annual program HMP PKh.
The Sign Language Class was categorized into introduction class and advanced class. Each class was led by Yasmine and Annisa Wiguna. The class was open for university students and people, in general, to teach sign language to communicate with the deaf community.
The program was held online through the Zoom Cloud Meeting application for seven sessions that consisted of meetings and training with tutors that started on the first week to the sixth week. In the seventh week, the participants took an examination prepared by the committee to examine their sign language skills.
The Chief of HMP PKh FKIP UNS, Ryandiasta, hoped this program could teach the community how to perform sign language.
“Hopefully, more people could perform sign language so that they could communicate with the deaf community,” Ryan explained on Thursday (30/12/2021).
Ryan also explained the program planned for the following year.
“Hopefully, BEBAS class could be administered, and more participants could join. Considering that more people outside PKh are interested in this program, it is unfortunate that the quota was limited. Hopefully, the pandemic will also end soon so that BEBAS class can be held offline,” Ryan concluded. Humas UNS
