UNS — The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho was granted National Sport Person by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI). The award was bestowed directly by the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) RI, Dr. Zainudin Amali, in the 38th National Sports Day celebration held hybrid in Jakarta and online on the Kemenpora YouTube channel.
Dr. Zainudin Amali emphasized that Indonesia’s achievements in the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic 2020 are the results of contributions from all related parties. Therefore, Kemenpora bestows awards for people’s contributions to national sports.
“The government will bestow the award to those achieving accomplishments in various international championships, especially Olympiad and Paralympic. Awards will also be rewarded to those who contributed to the training and development of sports in the country,” Menpora stated.
The award has several categories: athletes, referees, sports counselors, sport university teachers, and sports journalists. Prof. Jamal received an award in the university teacher category for his contribution to national sports achievements. Dr. Zainudin Amali stated that Prof. Jamal, as the Rector of UNS, has a significant contribution in providing sports facilities to Indonesian athletes who compete in the Tokyo Paralympic 2020.
“UNS Solo provided a sports science support to our Paralympic athletes,” Dr. Zainudin Amali added.
During the Tokyo Paralympic preparation, UNS provided support in the form of field facilities for the Paralympic athletes. This support is vital for the athletes, especially for their training during the implementation of restrictions on community activities (PPKM) in Solo. The athletes experienced challenges to train amid the PPKM, which UNS solves by providing training facilities so that they can continue training.
UNS faculty members also participated in training the Paralympic athletes. Six faculty members from the Faculty of Sports (FKOR) UNS trained the Paralympic athletes. They are Dr. Sapta Kunta Purnama, M.Pd. (Dean of FKOR UNS) as Indonesian para-badminton trainer and team manager; Dr. Islahuzaman, M.Or (Vice-Dean for Human Resources, Finance, and Logistics Affairs) and Dr. Fadhilah Umar, M.Or (FKOR UNS Chief of Quality Assurance Unit) as para-cycling trainer; Slamet Widodo, M.Or and Purwo Adi, M.Or (Special Teacher FKOR UNS) as para-athletic trainers; and Rizan S (Special Teacher) as para-cycling technical team.
