UNS — The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho targeted that the development of the Javanologi UNS Building will be completed this year. This target is revealed during the Wedangan Ikatan Alumni (Alumni Association-IKA) UNS XLV, Wednesday (17/2/2021). “This year (the Javanologi Building), InsyaAllah will be completed. Four days ago, we received information from the Central Government that the Ministry of PUPR will help the completion of the Javanologi UNS Building at a cost equal to 29.6 billion Rupiah,” Prof. Jamal reveals.
The UNS Javanologi building was starting its construction in 2013. The building located next to UNS GOR consists of 4 (four) stories. Even though the construction is not completed, the building was already in use by the Center for Excellence (PUI) Javanologi, since July 2020. According to the initial plan, the building will be a PUI Javanologi office with other additional functionalities such as a seminar room, indoor theatre, UNS Museum, superior product showroom, and production house. The building with an area of 5,600 square meters in total, will also have a pendopo, which can be functioned as a performance stage.
“Two days ago I visited the Javanologi team and requested that UNS can have a special characteristic compared to other universities. We hope that PUI Javanologi through UNS Java Metrics can be the arms that brings UNS globally,” he stressed.
PUI Javanologi is established in 2011. Back then, it was known as the Javanologi Institute Study Center LPPM UNS. In 2020, Javanologi is established as one of the Center of Excellence in UNS following Rector Decree No. 27A/UN27/KP/2020. Therefore, Javanologi becomes one of the three Center of Excellence in UNS along with PUI Lithium Battery and PUI Fintech & Banking. Now, PUI Javanologi has established collaboration with 23 countries. This collaboration was displayed through the Omah Diaspora Jawa Dunia (House of World Javanese Diaspora) in 2019.
Moreover, PUI Javanologi is currently establishing a scientific journal that already in its 4th volume. Further, Javanologi will realize the Statement on Global Future Life, Intensive Course of Javanese Heritage, Artificial Intelligence Society, the establishment of five professional cultural schools, the establishment of Javanese-based research method, and become a certification institution for the Javanese language teacher.
“The Javanologi does not only belong to the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB) UNS, but also belong to all faculties in UNS because the context of Javanese in Javanologi is not limited to the culture but also the Javanese herbal medicine (Jamu), textiles, and research,” said the Chair of PUI Javanologi Prof. Sahid Teguh Widodo, M.Hum., Ph.D., on this occasion.
