UNS Admission Rate is Getting More Competitive - Universitas Sebelas Maret

UNS – In order to socialize New Student Admission (PMB) 2017, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta invited principals or representatives of high schools in Surakarta to Auditorium of UNS Surakarta on Tuesday (24/01/2017). The event was opened by the Chairman of SPMB UNS, Sutarno, who is also the Vice Rector of UNS.

UNS opened opportunity of undergraduate degree programs for 6,291 people, 30 percent of which is through National Selection for State Universities Admission (SNMPTN), in which students are selected based on their previous academic records and potential; 50 percent through Joint Entrance Test for State Universities (SBMPTN), which is academic selection test held nationally (paper-based or computer-based test); and 20 percent through Independent Examination (UM), which is a separate examination arranged by UNS.

The decrease portion of SNMPTN continue to occur due to the fact that the quality of the recruitment results through written test of SBMPTN is much better than SNMPTN. If the evaluation is done, the portion of the SNMPTN is still possible to go down to increase the portion of SBMPTN.

“We did a series of examination and found the quality of students accepted through SNMPTN is not as good as students accepted through SBMPTN. For this reason, the quota for students accepted through SBMPTN is increased,” Sutarno said.

30 percent quota that has been set will make the competition to enroll at UNS through SNMPTN become very tight. The amount of students registered is restricted based on the accreditation of each school. A-accredited schools are allowed to register top 50% of graduating class; whilst B-accredited top 30%, C-accredited top 10%, and non-accredited schools only a mere top 5%.

“Actually it basically remains the same as last year, only there are some different parts to improve the quality of the selection,” Sutarno explained. (Herlangga Hizkiawan/Eln/Sav)
