UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held an online collective prayer on Thursday (17/6/2021). The event was joined by all UNS academic members; faculty members, academic staff, students, alumni, and Dharma Wanita.
The event was led by the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs UNS, Prof. Ahmad Yunus, and aims to pray for four UNS members who passed away; Didiek Sri Wiyono S.T., M.T from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA), Dr. dr. M. Arief Taufiqurrahman from the Faculty of Medical Science (FK), Ir. Mediyanto, S.T., M.T from the Faculty of Engineering (FT), and Maretta Elly Susilowati, S.E., Sub-coordinator of Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB).
The event was opened by AL-Qur’an recitation by the Faculty of Engineering UNS student, Muhammad Hadziq Munajih, followed by an opening remark from the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho. In his remark, Prof. Jamal mentioned that the university is saddened by the passing of three faculty members and academic staff. Prof. Jamal explained that Dr. dr. M. Arief Taufiqurrahman, was an excellent teacher that often appears on television and has great musical talent. Didiek Sri Wiyono S.T., M.T, is currently pursuing his doctoral degree in the UK, a great religious activist, the head of Nahdhatul Ulama branch in the UK, and has a promising capacity as a young intellectual. Didiek Sri Wiyono has inspired the young generations to pursue their education abroad and actively researching and publishing his works. Ir. Medianto, M.T. Pak Medi, was a great teacher in the Faculty of Engineering, an energetic person, full of vitality, and inspire young teachers.
“Covid-19 has separated them from us,” Prof. Jamal revealed.
On Thursday (17/6/2021), 06.00 pm (UTC+7), the Rector also received a report that almost all faculties in UNS have active COvid-19 cases. Four cases were reported in the Faculty of Agriculture (FP), one case in Planning, Library, and Vocational School (SV), three cases in the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), two cases in the Faculty of Law (FH), four cases in FMIPA, two cases in FT, two cases in FKIP, three cases in UNS Hospital, and two cases in FK.
Due to the high number of active cases, UNS executive board agreed to limit the offline activities on the campus from 18 to 25 June 2021. This decision was issued in the Circular Letter No. 2185/UN 27/ TU/ 2021 that requires all learning activities to be held online, limiting the number of offline academic staff, and minimizing offline meetings. UNS also closed all public facilities such as sports facilities, worship places, and other facilities for UNS academic members and the community.
The prayer was led by Arifuddin, Lc., M.A., a faculty member of the Arabic Language and Literature Program FIB UNS, who also delivered a short lecture before the prayer. Humas UNS
