UNS — After not holding Eid Fitr Salah in 2020 due to the padnemic, this year Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held Eid Fitr Salah on dr. Prakosa Building (Rectorate Building) Yard. The prayer was implemented under strict health protocols, with tens of people solemnly attending the prayer on Thursday (13/5/2021) morning.
Acting as the Khatib in the prayer was Prof. Ahmad Yunus, Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs UNS, with Muhammad Hadziq Munajih, Civil Engineering Program, Faculty of Engineering (FT) UNS serving as the imam. In his khutbah, Prof. Yunus encouraged the participants to forgive one another on the day of victory.
“Alhamdulillah, we had completed our fasting for a month. Eid Fitr is a vital moment to forgive one another. All mistakes during the year, we want to erase them in this Eid. Our community uses the words mohon maaf lahir dan batin (heartfelt apology),” he said.
The Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs UNS, who is also the Chief of Nurul Huda UNS Mosque caretaker, explained that to return to purity, people need to perform the cleaning process. For Muslims, this process occurs in Ramadan. “The month that brings mercy and forgiveness and as prevention that human does not fall into impurity. Therefore, Muslims could go back to their nature,” Prof. Ahmad Yunus added.
One of UNS students, Dwiantoro stated that this year Eid is different from previous years. Last year, he also celebrated Eid in Surakarta due to the pandemic. He felt lonely and trapped in another city, celebrating his first Eid without family. “The Eid prayer was in the dormitory, not in the open (like this year),” he said. This year is better, according to the Communication Science student, because he has more friends and not lonely. Humas UNS
