UNS — One of the Student Community Service (KKN) Group from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta organized dissemination on hypertension prevention and Covid-19. The event was conducted by Team 81 KKN UNS on Wednesday (10/2/2021) morning at Jamban Hall, Ngadirejo Village, Eromoko Sub-District, Wonogiri.
This dissemination was held as a follow-up of the Integrative KKN theme implemented by the Institute for Research Community Service (LPPM) UNS during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, which becomes the concern of the government and the general public. The dissemination was attended by 30 members of the Empowerment and Family Welfare Program (PKK), consisting of 15 members from RT 01/RW 11 and 15 members from RT 02/RW 11.
During the hypertension prevention dissemination, the team invites Dr. Iwan Iskandar as the Head of Eromoko Puskesmas (t/n: Public health center). Iwan considers that hypertension is one of the most common diseases in Indonesia. According to him, this cannot be separated from the Indonesian lifestyle. “It is crucial for the community to control and be aware of hypertension. This condition is related to the dangers that can arise from untreated and ignored hypertension. The public needs to maintain a healthy lifestyle, for example, reducing the consumption of foods that can trigger a rise in blood pressure and do a routine exercise at least 2-3 times a week,” he explains.
As for the Covid-19 dissemination, the KKN team invites a health worker for a hospital in Surakarta, Suci Handayani, A.Md. This special dissemination aims to appeal to the public to understand the clinical symptoms of Covid-19 and to prevent it. “The Covid-19 virus continues to spread in Indonesia. However, as a prevention measure, in order to not get infected and not to infects other, thus, it is important for us to stay alert and comply to the health protocol by washing hand properly, wearing minimum 3 layers mask, maintain physical distance and avoid the crowd as much as possible,” Suci said.
Other than the dissemination, the Team 81 KKN UNS 2021 also organizes various other activities to empower the community economy, among other, building catfish ponds, the establishment of a waste bank, business workshop, English and Arabic language tutoring, and procurement of hand sanitizer for the community in Jamban, Ngadirejo Village, Eromoko, Wonogiri. Each activity is designed to empower the community in managing and developing the economy in the Jamban neighborhood. Through community economic empowerment, the KKN team strives to maximize the activities in various sectors, which is expected to be continued by the community as well as giving economic and logistic benefits. The programs get a positive response from the local community.
Rohman, one of the community members, states that KKN programs have a significant effect on the community. “The KKN program has a direct effect on the community, we are delighted with the presence of the KKN team as well as the programs that have been created and carried out,” Rohman states.
