UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held an orientation and briefing for foreign students in UNS on Wednesday (18/8/2021) through the Zoom Cloud Meeting platform. Previously, UNS had conducted Campus Life Introduction for New Students (PKKMB) at the university level on 13-14 August.
The Chief of Partnership and International Office Unit UNS, Rino Ardhian Nugroho, Ph.D., reported that UNS admitted 33 foreign students from 13 countries this year.
“Twenty-two students received the UNS scholarship scheme, three students have independent funding, and eight students got funding from Developing Countries Partnership (KNB),” Rino explained.
In his opening remark, the Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs UNS, Prof. Sajidan, congratulated the international students admitted as UNS students.
“The opportunity to continue studying abroad, especially UNS, provides an opportunity (for students) to have the experience to connect and communicate with a new environment and with different culture. Hopefully, the students utilized all opportunities they have during their study to maximize their potential,” Prof. Sajidan stated.
The orientation was held to provide information on the requirements that foreign students should prepare before they participate in the learning process in UNS. The first speaker in this briefing was Ardian Pramastyo Putro, M. Si., Head of the Immigration Residence Permit Sub-Section of the Class I Immigration Office TPI Surakarta, who explained the immigration regulation in Indonesia.
The speaker in the following session was Bripka Reisa Hariyadi Bayu Utama from the Foreigner Supervision Section of Polresta Surakarta, who reminded the international students to understand and obey every legal regulation in Indonesia because it might be different from their home country.
The speaker in the third session was Arie Prabowo, S. H., the Head of Population Registration Service Division Disdukcapil Kota Surakarta, who explained the responsibility, requirements, and procedure to manage Surat Keterangan Tempat Tinggal (Residence Certificate) for foreign students once they live in Indonesia.
The Partnership and International Office Unit UNS also collaborates with UNS Language Center (UP2B) to arrange a Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing (BIPA) course for all foreign students of the 2021/2022 academic year. This course aims to improve their Indonesia Language proficiency to help them during the learning process and improve their achievements.
