UNS — The Professor in Education Sociology, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, who currently serves as the Chairman of the Expert Team for Mental Revolution Program, Prof. Ravik Karsidi, states that integrity is crucial for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) employees. Because integrity is one of the efforts taken by KPK within the anti-corruption education program, actualizing integrity, according to Prof. Ravik, can take a role in reforming the character and morals of the nation systematically.
“The utmost important aspect of integrity is honesty. This value is the most important because, according to Cressey, corruption occurs due to three factors, namely, opportunity, motivation, and rationalization,” Prof. Ravik reveals during the JIB Talks entitled “Fortifying the KPK Integrity,” Monday (10/5/2021) afternoon.
This message was delivered by Prof. Ravik following a suspicion toward the integrity of KPK employees that recently occurred. In front of the attending participants in Zoom Cloud Meeting and JIB Post Youtube Livestreaming, he explains three integrity values delivered through the Mental Revolution Movement, which can be implemented by KPK employees. The first value is the core value consisting of honesty, discipline, and responsibility. The second values are work ethics that consist of independence, hard work, and simplicity. And the last (third) is a personal attitude, which leads to bravery, care, and justice.
“Unfortunately, I would like to say that the KPK staffs’ appearance, who always been courageous, caring, and fair, instead, become the source of suspicions. Therefore, we must think in reverse, what is actually happening?” he inquired. He further explains that Article 1 paragraph (6) of Regulation No. 19 of 2019 states that ‘The employees of the Corruption Eradication Commission is the state’s civil apparatus according to the provisions of the laws and regulations of the state civil apparatus.’ Therefore, KPK leaders are actually carrying out the mandate of the Law.
However, he is questioning whether the transition of KPK employees into State Civil Apparatus (ASN), through the recent Test on National Insight and Knowledge (TWK), is wise or not. “Why do such test must be conducted strictly and I think it was more stringent than other ASN. This is my main question,” Prof. Ravik stressed.
The Urgency of Anti-Corruption Education
Prof. Ravik, who was once a Rector of UNS for the period of 2011-2015 and 2015-2019, considers that anti-corruption education is not only important for KPK staff but also for the general public.
This opinion was expressed after him questioning the commitment of the KPK staff after they are determined as an ASN and how they would implement anti-corruption education and training.
In his discussion, Prof. Ravik considers that attitudes with specifics character will be the embryo of corruption, such as underestimating quality, liking instant culture, insecurity, undisciplined, and often neglecting responsibility; all these attitudes need to be eliminated.
“Anti-corruption education must be provided from the lowest education level at Kindergarten until university level, as well as the three main education sources. Starting from family, school, and out-of-school community,” Prof. Ravik said. Humas UNS
