UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Regional Government of Kebumen District, in Senate Meeting Room II, dr. Prakosa Rectorate Building, Tuesday (15/12/2020) afternoon.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed directly by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho with Kebumen District Head, Yazid Mahfudz. On this occasion, Prof. Jamal was accompanied by the Vice-Rector for Student and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo, and the Vice-Rector for Partnership and Planning Affairs, Prof. Sajidan. This partnership will cover education, training, research, development, community engagement, human resource development, and potential regional industry development.

In his remarks, Prof. Jamal welcomes this opportunity from the Kebumen District to establish a partnership. He also mentions UNS support for regional development. “On behalf of UNS leaders, I welcome you and thank you for your visit to UNS,” Prof. Jamal states.

As an educational institution, Prof. Jamal explicitly said that UNS is ready to work together for the development of the Kebumen District. This proved with the research potential, academic members, and students in UNS. For instance, the support to research and community engagement, UNS has 24 research centers under the Institute for Research and Community Engagement (LPPM) UNS. From these research centers, LPPM UNS succeeded in establishing 314 research groups.

“In UNS, 20 percent of the budget is allocated for research and community engagement activities. We also become the initiator for Covid-19 Student Community Service Program by deploying students in their neighborhood,” he explains.

On this occasion, Prof. Jamal also reveals the UNS Kebumen Campus development plan. This development will include the establishment of Diploma Program in Tourism Travelling, Bachelor Program in Informatics Technology, Bachelor Program in Law, Bachelor Program in Management, Bachelor Program in Agrotechnology, Master Program in Management, and Master Program in Elementary School Teacher Education.

“Considering the potential and regional development needs in Kebumen, UNS planned to further develop UNS Campus in Kebumen, starting on the 2021/2022 Academic Calendar, by opening several study programs,” added Prof. Jamal.

This plan was delivered directly to the Director of the Vocational School (SV) UNS, Drs. Santoso Tri Hananto and the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNS, Prof. Djoko Suhardjanto for an immediate follow-up. At the end of the remark, Prof. Jamal expressed his hope that operational activity in education and administration in UNS Kebumen Campus can run smoothly.

Responding to the warm remark, Yazid Mahfudz hopes that the partnership with UNS can be implemented appropriately. Especially Kebumen as one of the Districts with great tourism potential, hopefully, this potential can be more developed with the establishment of the UNS campus in Kebumen.

“Kebumen is located in South Javanese Coast directly facing the Hindia Ocean. With an area of 1,281 KM2 and 1,375,221 in population,” Yazid Mahfudz explained.

As the Head of Kebumen District, Yazid Mahfudz, also deliver the short-term development plan for the region for the 2016-2021 period. The development plan consists of human resource management development, social welfare improvement and spirituality, economic independence development, provision of education and health facilities, as well as strengthening good and clean governance.

“We also have tourism potential, which included in local economic development. Public service optimization, industrial area, geopark region, local product development, and manpower development,” Yazid reveals. Humas UNS
