UNS – A creative step has been taken by students of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta by creating a Disinfection Chamber. This tool aims to reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission.
Students who participated in the creation of Disinfection Chamber are Ilham Wahyu Kuncoro, a graduate of Mechanical Engineering Education Program (PTM) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) class of 2015, Kukuh Mukti Wibowo a graduate of PTM class of 2014 who currently studying in Magister of Mechanical Engineering UNS, Atang a student of PTM class of 2016, and Miftahul Maarif a graduate of Magister of Physics 2019. The four students are supervised by Dr.Eng. Nugroho Agung Pambudi.
Contacted by uns.ac.id team on Wednesday (25/3/2020), Kukuh stated that this tool can be used by the community who cannot work from home.
“The objective of this tool is to reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission because some people are working outdoor and cannot implement work from home program. This tool will spray disinfectant to all body or clothes, it is expected to kill germs or viruses that attached to the body or clothes. So, this tool is to complete prevention (efforts),” Kukuh stated.
The process to create a disinfectant chamber took four days to complete. This tool was created as simple and as cheap as possible. It is also prepared in modules so that it is convenient to be installed and applied in various places. The units will be prepared according to the available orders. The price of one disinfection chamber is planned to be sold on the range of Rp. 1,500,000. Currently, Kukuh and his friends can produce 2 units of the disinfectant chamber a day.
Kukuh admitted that he and his friends get the initiative to make a disinfection chamber to take a role in the Covid-19 countermeasure considering that Surakarta is on an extraordinary event (KLB) of Covid-19 outbreak.
“This tool has been produced in several areas such as in Surabaya, Jakarta, and other areas. We are as Mechanical Engineering Education students choose the initiative to make (disinfectant chamber) as (an effort) to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. The initial idea, we are inspired by Vietnam that has this tool on several highways. Considering Coronavirus infection cases are increasing in Solo and Solo becomes red zone,” Kukuh stated.
The excellence of their disinfection chamber is it is cheap and easy to produce so that the community can produce a similar tool.
“The advantages of this prototype are that it is cheap and easy to produce, and easy to assemble, so that the public, in general, can also make it easily,” Kukuh explained.
In the future, Kukuh expected that the tool that they made can provide benefits widely and sever the spread of Covid-19. As for the distribution of this disinfection chamber, currently, the prototype will be installed in UNS Pabelan Campus. Besides that, they planned to provide a guidebook or production poster to the general public.
“Hopefully, this tool can sever the spread of Coronavirus and can be used by general public,” Kukuh hope. Humas UNS/Zalfaa
