UNS — The students of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) have succeeded in developing a business design for native chicken organic feed. The business design is established by Amalia Firdaus Yanti (Biologi Education, 2017), Farah Halimah (Biologi Education, 2017), Muhammad Naufal Mu’afa (Agribusiness, 2017), Cindy Puspitasari (Agribusiness, 2017), and Ahmad Musthofa Anshori (Animal Husbandry, 2019), under the supervision of Wiwit Rahayu S.P., M.P. Through Student Creativity Program (PKM) in entrepreneurship, organized by the Minister of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud), the proposed organic chicken feed is made from local material, rice bran, and papaya leaves, all materials were fermented, and branded as BP-Profit.
Amalia Firdaus Yanti, explains that their team chooses this field because there is much native chicken farm in Indonesia that has the potential to increase community income and the economy. Native chicken in Indonesia is popular, however, the production of native chicken remains low despite several village communities raising native chicken. This is due to the farm management that conducted traditionally, less nutritious feed, and odor disturbance coming from chicken manure. Starting from these conditions, Amalia and the team propose an idea, supported with scientific research, to produce native chicken feed. “BP-Profit is made from organic materials such as rice bran and papaya leaves, these materials are fermented using Bacillus subtilis and Lactobacillus bulgaricus solution,” Amalia reveals, Wednesday (18/11/2020).
As for the marketing plan, the BP-Profit will be promoted through Instagram as its main platform and supported with Youtube, WhatsApp, and Facebook. The product can be ordered by scanning the barcode available on its packaging or through Shopee and WhatsApp. Compared to normal feed, BP-Profit has several advantages such as can increase chicken livestock weight quickly due to the fermentation process, eliminating manure odor, and packed in a ziplock bag to maintain feed quality. Moreover, BP-Profit can be purchased at an affordable price.
Alongside her teammates, Amalia hopes that their product can be realized to help the native chicken farmers in obtaining chicken feed supply at affordable price as well as local material usage to increase the selling price of papaya leaves and rice bran. Humas UNS
