UNS — Two Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta students won the 1st position in Malaysia Indonesia Investment Essay Competition (Mainvention) 2021. This competition was held by Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa) online through the Zoom Meeting application. The two students are Alfian Khamal Mustafa and Natan Rio Saputra from the Agricultural Extension & Communication (PKP) Faculty of Agriculture (FP) UNS.
When contacted by the uns.ac.id team, Alfian explained that they submitted an innovation in waste investment through the waste bank in FP to the competition. The concept of their innovation is to create a system for campus members to invest their waste through the said waste bank. “Then to convert it into golds under the tag line of separating waste, saving gold,” Alfian stated Thursday (1/7/2021).
By competing in this competition, Alfian his fellows want to improve their writing skills. They took 1.5 months to prepare their essay. “Then we sent the manuscript and went through with the process to reach the Best 10,” Alfian explained.
After went through the competition stages, they were announced as the 1st winner in June 2021. Alfian felts grateful for their achievement. “I am grateful and glad because, between my activities in the last semester, I still got an opportunity to create a work and fight for UNS name,” he revealed.
Representing his fellows, Alfian hopes that their essay could be implemented through the waste banks in FP. He also hopes that he could continue creating until he graduated and bring proud names for UNS. “Many UNS members participate as FP UNS waste bank customers; thus, it becomes an example of the agent for campus environment preservation,” he hoped.
