UNS — Three students of the Faculty of Medical Science (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta won 1st place in the national public poster competition on January 30, 2022. They are Octaviana Rizka Fadila, Prilla Firsty Prasetyo Putri, and Putri Marifatul Mardiyah. The three are sixth-semester students of the Medicine Education Study Program, FK UNS.
The competition entitled ‘Scripta Research Festival’ (SRF) 2022 was organized by the Standing Committee on Research Exchange (Score) Student Government (Pema), Faculty of Medical Science (FK), Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). Through posters reviewing the handling of suicide attempts, they managed to defeat rivals from other universities.
“In this poster, we describe certain measures we can do and matters to avoid when meeting people with suicidal ideas. This suicidal tendency included as psychiatric emergencies that need to be addressed in the event of meeting or finding persons with suicidal thought both explicitly and implicitly,” explained Rizka, Sunday (13/2/2022).
Additionally, this poster is also encouraged by the fact that there is still substantial negative stigma related to mental health. “As a result, someone who is in the phase of fighting against mental disorders does not get support from those around them; thus, increasing the death rate from suicide. Suicide attempts are also ranked second as the cause of death at the age of15-29,” she added.
When the winner was announced, Rizka and her team claimed to be very happy.
“We are delighted and never think that we could win a championship because this was our first experience to take part in a public poster competition. Moreover, we still need to learn a lot. Hopefully, in the future, we can improve our competency and can be beneficial for the community,” concluded Rizka. Humas UNS
