UNS – Student of Economics Education Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Windi Mulyani, accompanies the community in her village in RT 001/ RW 003 Kedungwinangun Village, Kebumen to produce hand sanitizer, disinfectant, and 2 ply cloth masks. This event was conducted from 15 May to 30 June 2020.

Windi’s work is a part of her KKN Covid-19 UNS Batch 2 program. Windi who won 2nd place on National Scientific Writing Competition (Lomba Karya Tulis Ilmiah Nasional – LKTIN) Forestime for her idea to process sugar palm waste into alternative fuel, chose the big theme of Covid-19 Education in her KKN program because in her opinion, the government has taken several efforts to cut the transmission of COvid-19 through work from home and social distancing, however, the number of Covid-19 positive cases continue to increase, which might be caused by the low community knowledge and awareness on the matter.

Windi added that the submaximal efforts in containing Covid-19 pandemic are caused by the lack of integration and connection between the highest and the lowest government unit, or between state and village. During the assistance in making hand sanitizers, disinfectants, and 2 ply 2-layer fabric masks, Windi was also accompanied by Eko Supri Martiono. The assistance process performed by Windi brought real results when the neighborhood produced 90 bottles of hand sanitizer, 25 2 ply 2-layer fabric masks, 7 litres of disinfectant, 90 sheets of an educational poster, 50 educational stickers, and 2 educational banners. These products were distributed to the community in RT 001/ RW 003 Kedungwinangun Village, Klirong Subdistrict, Kebumen District.

Windi also educated her neighborhood concerning the danger of Covid-19 transmission to children and adults through posters, stickers, and banners, as well as WhatsApp group, Instagram, Facebook, and her YouTube channel. Windi wished that the community will be aware of the danger of the spread of Covid-19 which is transmitted through the eyes, nose, and mouth.

“Covid-19 education is vital in increasing community awareness in solving Covid-19, especially for children and old people because they are more vulnerable to the infection,” she concluded. Humas UNS
