UNS — The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners (DK) for the Financial Services Authority (OJK) of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Wimboh Santoso, was visiting Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta on Friday (1/10/2021).
This second visit of Prof. Wimboh to the UNS within a week is specifically to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Al-Latief Mosque, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNS, which was built through donations from the OJK, Bank Mandiri, BNI, and BRI.
Before signing the inauguration and ribbon-cutting ceremony of Al-Latief Mosque FEB UNS, Prof. Wimboh, in his speech, hopes that the Mosque can transform into a center of excellence.
With a nice interior and sufficient facilities, Prof. Wimboh encourages Al-Latief Mosque FEB UNS to be a place of worship and a center for sharia value development and innovation.
Prof. Wimboh conveyed this message because of the small market share of Islamic banks in Indonesia, with only nine percent of market share. In fact, based on the demographic data, the majority of Indonesian are Muslim.
He encourages Islamic banks to increase their innovative banking product to facilitate people who need assistance in funding.
“How to prepare a job for the 270 million (red: Indonesia population), so when they need to find employment, they can immediately find one. Meanwhile, those already with income can certainly improve their welfare,” said Prof. Wimboh.
Prof. Wimboh, as a non-permanent Professor in Risk Management in FEB UNS, also explained that, following the direction of the national economy development, it is necessary to provide space for
economic growth. Meaning that MSMEs can have access to funding, improving community productivity, and increasing purchasing power of industrial products.
“This space should be improved. We have KUR funds totaled Rp 250 trillion. That is why we have BNI, BRI, and Bank Mandiri. These are the channel for us to empower people to be more productive,” said Prof. Wimboh.
Further, he added that the community purchasing power for industrial products must be improved. Prof. Wimboh does not wish to see the real estate sector plummeted and the motorcycle/car industry collapse.
“Therefore, they can buy more products. Those who can not buy a house can afford to buy a house. If no one buys a new motorcycle, then the company will collapse. This situation is unacceptable, similarly with the car. This is about how we nurture the current economic growth,” he said. Humas UNS
