UNS — Confucius Institute (CI) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta celebrate the New Chinese Year 2572 Kongzili by conducting a modest celebration in Building I Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB) UNS, Thursday (11/2/2021). CI invited limited guests to attend the event.
The guests attending the invitation were Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs UNS, Prof. Ahmad Yunus, Dean of FIB, Prof. Warto, Vice-Dean for Human Resources, Finance, and Logistics Affairs FIB UNS, Dr. Henry Yustanto, Vice-Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs FIB UNS, Prof. Tri Wiratno, and Vice-Dean for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs FIB UNS, Prof. Wakit. The event was also attended by the Chief of Mandarin Language Center (PBM) UNS, Stephanie Phanata, B. Ed., MTCSOL, faculty members, and academic staff in the Diploma Program (D-3) in Mandarin Language Vocational School (SV) UNS.
Representing the Rector of UNS, Prof. Ahmad Yunus opened the event. He stated that this modest celebration could serve as an opportunity to grow a new spirit and build togetherness among the nation’s children. Chinese New Year is an excellent momentum for the society to perform self-introspection and reflection in comprehending the existing togetherness and peace.
Prof. Yunus stated that the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia encourages the people to interpret Chinese New Year 2021 as positive energy, spirit, and moral support from the society to survive the challenging period. In front of the Chief of PBM UNS and all guests, Prof. Ahmad Yunus also emphasized UNS earnestness in developing CI. As an educational institution, UNS should be proud and grateful to be trusted to establish CI. CI UNS was inaugurated on 11 March 2019, is a collaboration between UNS and Xihua University and Hanban.
“We will continue to develop CI in UNS. I inform you that not all big Public universities are trusted to manage and develop a partnership with CI,” Prof. Ahmad Yunus stated.
On this occasion, the Dean of FIB UNS, Prof. Warto, also mentioned the plan for developing the Undergraduate Program in Mandarin Language. He stated that the plan is the wish from D-3 Mandarin Language graduates SV UNS. Dr. Warto appreciated the Chinese New Year 2021 celebration held by CI UNS. He added that CI has an essential role in UNS because it answers the cultural challenge to face globalization and community 5.0. It also serves as a part to take care of cultural processes that have existed for centuries as the community grows more individualistic days by days.
“CI is a bridge to connect two big cultures, Chinese and Indonesian. Especially in the heart of Javanese culture. CI holds a vital role in Surakarta; therefore, we hope for your support in developing CI in the future,” Prof. Warto stated.
In the event, CI UNS presented several exciting events for the invited guests, such as an umbrella dance and Chinese tea drinking etiquette performed by D-3 Mandarin Language SV UNS students. CI UNS also distributed coupons inside the angpao with money and exciting gifts. Free dim sums were also served. Humas UNS
