UNS – Industrial Engineering of Engineering Faculty of Universitas Sebelas Maret (FT UNS) Surakarta visited PT Mega Andalan Kalasan Yogyakarta (PT MAK) to discuss the cooperative research on standardization, Wednesday (7/6/2017). Using triple helix approach, this cooperative research involves academicians, industry practitioners, and National Standardization Agency of Indonesia (BSN).

The discussion included commitment, level of readiness, and roles of each group involved in the triple helix in executing the research about Indonesian National Standard Design (RSNI) for wheelchairs. It had to do with the high demand for wheelchairs in Indonesia, the most vital mobility aids for disabled people and elderlies.

The wheelchair improvement was also associated with the Presidential Decree concerning the Acceleration of Development of Pharmaceutical Industry and Medical Devices (4/2016). The implementation involved BSN for standardization — to increase the product quality.

“UNS was once involved in RSNI; we are ready for the SNI Development for Wheelchairs. The RSNI will be conceptualized using FACTS (Framework for Analysis, Comparisson and Testing Standard) approach,” said Fakhrina Fahma, a researcher of Grup Riset Rekayasa Industri dan Tekno-ekonomi FT UNS.

The cooperative research will also involve students and lecturers of Industrial Engineering of FT UNS to solve the existent problems regarding the production system of wheelchairs, which covers cross-production balance, machine utility enhancement, cost reduction, and productivity refinement. humas-red.uns/Dty/Eln
