UNS – The Indonesian Language and Literature Education Department of Postgraduate Program, University of Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta conducted the Second Conference of Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) located in the hall of Postgraduate Building at the 6th floor on Saturday (11/9/2019). This event was held as the media to share ideas regarding the implementation of the study program of Indonesian Language for foreign speakers spread in several areas in Indonesia and overseas. This event was officially opened by the Director of UNS Postgraduate Program, Prof. Drs. Sutarno, M.Sc, Ph.D.
Furthermore, in order to review several learning programs of BIPA and to identify the need and dynamism of the learning programs, the BIPA Conference II invited some speakers, from home and abroad. They are the Central Chairman of Teacher Affiliation and BIPA Activist (APPBIPA), Liliana Muliastuti, the Chairman of Indonesian Language and Literature Lecturers Association (ADOBSI), Muhammad Rohmadi, UNS BIPPA Activist, Kundharu Saddhono, Petra Adamkove from Czech Republic, Ku Ares Twandorloh from Fatoni Unversity Thailand, and Christopher A. Woodrich from IIF Forum Canada.
Getting asked about BIPA implementation, the chairman of the committee, Dr. Kundharu Saddhono, M.Hum, explained that the prospect and challenges in implementing BIPA both in Indonesia and international should be managed comprehensively by the BIPA activists.
“The theme chosen in the Yearly BIPA Conference (Ke-BIPA-an) II year 2019 is Opportunity, Challenge, and Prospect. The theme is chosen because the implementation of BIPA has high opportunity in the education world. However, it contains dynamical challenges that should be managed comprehensively and the BIPA learning activists should be aware of the opportunity and challenge to be the positive prospects in the future,” explained by the chairman of the committee, Dr. Kundharu Saddhono.
In this year conference, BIPA got several goals, for instance, Indonesian Language internationalization, conducting conference to examine the learning program of BIPA in Indonesia and international countries, Identifying the need and dynamism of the implementation of BIPA learning program in Indonesia and international, accommodating the opportunity, challenge, and prospect of BIPA, producing international reputed proceedings output with Indonesian language articles indexed Scopus.
