UNS – Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, attended Grand Final of XIII Student Food Creativity Competition (SFCC) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta presented by Food Technology Department of Agriculture Faculty (FP) UNS in UNS Inn, Wednesday (10/09/2019). On this occasion, Ganjar appreciated students who had bravely joined in creative economy field.

“I’m interested to attend this event because the youngsters set to explore the creative economy. I want to meet and appreciate them. I also found that the ingredients used were the local commodities and spices,” he remarked in his speech.

This event focused on the innovation of spice-based food and culinary. Ganjar stated that the creative food and culinary business had noteworthy opportunities.

“In Central Java, the name of a food is a branding which attracts people to know more. For example in Temanggung, cassava cooked with sugar called ‘bajingan’ (bastard). Surely, this is unique and attractive. Even though, the food with same presentation and taste also exists in other regions,” he added.

This business will be more potential if combined with technology in this era of revolution industry 4.0. Further, Ganjar gave an example of a business application pioneered by two young men named ‘madang’ (eat). He also hoped that the students’ creativity would not only end at this competition.

“You develop your creative ideas, keep market it, and never stop. It all starts with a joke and from small (things). But that is investment for your success. We need millions of entrepreneurs. This is the era of disruption, prepare yourself, set off a jump with all the technology and knowledge accompanied by these great people,” he expressed.

Then, the developed products need to be publicly tested because these products are the potential to become a new trend of culinary.

This is in line with the goal of XIII SFCC UNS which organizing to facilitated students in evolving creative ideas so that they can become excellent generations who are ready to fight in the era of industrial revolution 4.0.

“It’s like UNS missions to achieve world-class university and to be ready for facing global developments. In this competition, a lot of fresh and creative ideas from the participants. Most of them focused more on healthy food products. Like ‘Yojaku’, pain relief yogurt, spice biscuits, and so on. The standard quality of the products is quite well,” explained Iskar Lazuardi, chairman of XIII SFCC UNS.

The competition titled “Plantation Technology and Spices” was attended by 56 high schools at the national level then eliminated into 10 teams in the final round. They were SMKN 1 Temanggung (2 teams), SMKN 1 Mojosongo (3 teams), SMAN 1 Wonosobo, SMK Kebon Dalem Semarang, SMAN 1 Tumpang, SMKN 1 Mejayan, and SMKN 1 Jakenan.

“There were two stages of selection. Firstly, we eliminated based on the abstract sent to us, is it match the theme or not. Then, they sent us a journal or scientific paper physically. Only the best 10 teams would conduct a presentation. The products from the top 3 will be displayed in the ‘food expo’ on October 26,” Iskar concluded. Humas UNS/Kaffa/Try
